Echo is an 2 year old female German Shepherd cross who is looking for a new home due to a change in her previous owners circumstances. She is an affectionate and loyal dog who is good with people and other dogs. She would be well suited to a home with a garden and with owners who have had previous experience with large dogs. She can get very over excited when meeting new dogs so would benefit from some furthur training. Echo can live with children aged 12 years plus and will be spayed prior to rehoming.

Red is a gentle German Shepherd cross boy and despite his size he is a friendly and sociable boy. He mixes well with the other dogs he has met. He is around 4 years old. Red has spent the last 7 months in kennels. Red would like a home with adults and older children who may have experience of older dogs.

Lady – 8 year old female German Shepherd Cross

Lady is an 8 year old German Shepherd cross girl who has come into rescue via the Inspector along with Jess due to welfare concerns. She has been health checked, micro-chipped, wormed/flead and started vaccinations including Kennel Cough. She was already spayed. Lady does have cataracts and an ear infection so is on ear drops to clear this up but this may need monitoring generally.

She was not in a great condition so one of our lovely volunteers gave her two baths and cut out chunks of matted fur, she’s now a beautiful lady! Lady is an absolutely lovely dog, she is so sweet, playful and active but also very affectionate. Her previous originally got her from a relative with a child about a year ago.

Lady has lived with a cat and a German Shepherd who is also in our care. Lady is generally well behaved, clearly having had some training in the past and she is house trained.

Lady would love to have some company and nice walks, she’s not an oldie yet you know…so please don’t let her age put you off!

Megan is a 2year old German Shepherd cross. She is looking for a new home due to her owners finding her too strong and not being able to give Megan the exercise she needs. Megan is good with other dogs and loves to play and run. She is not good with cats. She would suit an active home and someone willing to continue her training and socialisation. This is the wonderful Merlin, he is 7 years young and will be 8 in august, he is Labrador cross German Shepherd Dog. He is a happy soul and is pleasant with everyone. Poor Merlin is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. Merlin has always lived another dog so would ideal as a companion. He has a wonderful temperament both with people and other dogs.

Looking for forever homes we have 8 – 8 week old Boxer cross German Shepherd Dog Puppies the result of an accidental mating at a breeding kennel. These puppies have been well looked after and are well socialised and happy little souls. They are seeing the vet today for a check up and first vaccinations and micro chips. They will also be fleaed and wormed.

Hello, my name is Macey. I’m a seven year old female, Newfoundland and German Shepherd Crossbreed. I arrived at The Mayhew because my owner was moving to a property which doesn’t allow pets. I’m an obedient, sensible and sweet-natured girl. I am toilet trained, well-behaved, I travel well in the car, I can be left on my own without any problems and I know all the usual commands which I respond well to. I also know a few tricks. I enjoy going to the park. I have a good recall off my lead and I get along well with other dogs. I’m aloof with strangers but very affectionate with people I know. I love my cuddles and I always enjoy a good tummy rub.

I am now looking for a forever home with someone who has owned dogs before and has researched my breed type. I would happily live with sensible children from 10 years of age and upwards. I could also live with another dog providing we’re the right match. I can live with dog-confident cats too. I would happily live with someone who works full-time providing I’m not left on my own for longer than four hours without a break, either by hiring a dog walker, pet sitter or by coming home at lunch-time. My new owners will be expected to provide me with a minimum of one hour of off-lead exercise every day. If you’re interested in adopting me you will need to be fully prepared for the hard work and long-term commitment involved in caring for a dog, which must not be taken lightly.

Emma is a female mixed breed dog, probably German Shepherd/Labrador, of about 6 years old. She came into the rescue shelter in Athens in October 2006 when she was found straying in a pitiful condition – she was “skin and bones”, is how the president of the shelter describes her. Emma was given veterinary treatment, food and TLC, and she now weighs about 18 kilos and is looking good! She is not a big dog, standing only 18” tall to the shoulder so she won’t take up too much room on the sofa! She is fully vaccinated, and has been neutered and microchipped.

Emma is one of the longest staying members of the rescue shelter. She shared a cage for 3 years with a male dog called Moussodos who was lucky enough to be adopted by a local family. They would have loved to adopt Emma too, as the dogs got on so well together, but the ongoing crisis in Greece has made that impossible.

Emma tends to be ignored as she is not considered a “pretty” girl – I think she’s beautiful!!! Emma is, however, one of the most fun-loving dogs and she desperately needs a home that will show her how good life can be. She loves going for walks, and although she is excited and pulls on the lead at first, she soon calms down and enjoys herself. Emma would probably prefer to be the only dog so she can lap up all the attention herself (she loves cuddles and being petted), although she does get on with other dogs and would be quite happy to share her home with a male dog – they would probably play all day!! Emma can live with children.

When she first arrived at the shelter Emma had kalazar (leishmaniasis). This can be present in differing degrees – Emma’s condition is not serious and is currently dormant. Once in the UK Emma is not at risk of being reinfected, and in the unlikely event that her condition does become active it will be easily controlled by taking one tablet a day. Emma is therefore looking for a special home that will ensure she has a regular blood test and will undertake her daily medication if required so she can live the rest of her life as a loved and loving member of a family.

This lovely dog has spent too long in a cage at the rescue in Athens. We know she will make a superb family pet so Emma is being prepared to travel to the UK in May 2012. If she has no home offer when she arrives, she will be fostered with one of our volunteers in the South East. It would be so much better for her to go straight into a loving family home. Hendrix is a German Shepherd cross who is two years old. He was incredibly nervous when he arrived but he’s starting to settle now. Hendrix will bark to keep you away initially but a few gentle words and dog treats and he’s in your arms loving the attention and affectionate. We’d ideally like an experienced GSD owner for him. A beautiful boy who really deserves a loving home

Sandy 6 to 7 years old German Shepard cross possibly Lab. Sandy is looking for a new home as her owners can no longer take care of her. She is a beautiful looking girl who has been used to being part of a family. Sandy is used to cats and loves people, she like to be involved in family life but she is fine to be left for a while . Sandy is fully jabbed and flead and wormed , she has a type of mild eczema which does not effect her greatly but she does need to be regularly groomed to help ease the condition. Sandy would suit a quiet home where she can enjoy long walks and a comfy bed.
