German Shepherd Cross

Womble – 7 year old male German Shepherd cross Rottweiler

This big handsome boy is Womble, he’s a 7 year old boy and thought to be a German Shepherd and Rottweiler cross. He almost didn’t have a Christmas this year, he was in an overcrowded pound and at risk of being put to sleep. Fortunately, an Oldies Club fosterer came forward to help him and we managed to get him to his new foster home in Preston, Lancashire, just in time for Christmas. As you can see from his photos it didn’t take him long to settle in and he made the most of the Christmas festivities!

Womble is a big cuddly boy and his favourite pastimes are eating, snoozing and going for walks. He’s currently about 10kg overweight so he’s trying to do a little less of the eating and a bit more of the walking. He’d be happy in a fairly active home, although he’s not exactly super fast at the moment – the most he’s managed is a trot and that was when he saw a squirrel! This is probably due to him being overweight, so he’s going to need someone who can continue to work on his diet. He’s generally good on the lead, but can be strong if something takes his interest. He has good recall, but seems to respond better to men than women.

Womble is very good with cats and other dogs, but he would prefer quieter companions for his housemates. He’s a really friendly and cheeky boy and he loves being with people and wouldn’t mind living with older children (aged 7 years+). It would be great if he could find a home with someone who is around most of the day, although he doesn’t object to being left for a few hours at a time.

Womble is neutered, microchipped and flea and worm treated and his vaccinations have been started. He has a fatty lump on his back leg which is due to be removed before he’s rehomed.

*Update for Womble*

Womble has lost 3.5kg and is feeling brand new! He loves to go out for walks and even enjoy a little run when he’s let off the lead. He has been to the groomers recently too and his foster mum says he behaved like a perfect gent. Womble has some tricks. He can “speak” and do a “high five” so his foster mum thinks he is a very intelligent lad. She says he has the brains of a German Shepherd and the loyalty of a Rottie.

Manny – 1 year old male Lurcher cross German Shepherd Dog

Manny is a handsome 1 year old Lurcher cross German Shepherd Dog who has come into us due to not being able to be left alone in the house as he becomes destructive. Unfortunatly his owners working hours meant he had to be left for most of the day. He is great with other dogs, doesn’t seem to mind cats but is scared of other animals. Manny has been used to visiting children and was fine with them, he is a lovely dog, he just can’t be left for long periods of time. He loves to play and will happily sit on your lap for a cuddle. The brother of Sheba.

Riley – 6-8 month old male Siberian Husky cross German Shepherd Dog

Riley is a 6-8 month old Siberian Husky cross German Shepherd Dog – more Husky though. Riley is a lovely natured boy. He is good with dogs, people and children. Amazing how trusting he can be when he was shut out in a yard in North West London for the first 6 months of his life.

He gets anxious when left and I expect would chew. We are working on this. He is a vocal dog and often chatters and sings to you. His owners were going to, in their words, “kill him” as he was noisy in the yard! He has just started his vaccinations again as we have no history of this. He has been wormed and deflead.

He is currently in a foster home in the Midlands.

Sailor – 3 year old male German Shepherd Dog cross Collie

Sailor is a 3 year old German Shepherd Dog cross Collie. He came into care via the RSPCA Inspectors after his owners failed to care for him properly and he had lost quite a bit of weight.

Sailor is rapidly weight gaining and enjoying life once more. He absolutely loves toys, especially his tennis balls, and we are beginning to successfully train him to retrieve using either treats or toys as a reward. We find him to be an intelligent and energetic dog that will benefit from an active home and where he will be kept stimulated. Sailor is currently learning to roll over and to search for treats in the snow games and is really enjoying the training.

Sailor is eager to please and can get a bit carried away with himself by jumping up so he would be best suited to a home with older children. Sailor is semi long haired so will need regular brushing in his new home.

Prince – 4 year old male German Shepherd Dog Cross

Prince is approximately 4 years old, he is a very handsome German Shepherd cross. Prince came into our care after he was found tied up outside a local supermarket. He had obviously been dumped as he had been there for several hours.

He has really come out of his shell since he came into our care in September. Prince is very eager to please dog and will do anything for food! Prince loves his toys and will happily go off and play on his own. He is our most intelligent dog and loving the search for treats and toys games and he knows all his commands.

He is an independent dog and in kennels he hasn’t shown any interest to have a cuddle and a fuss but in a home environment he may prove quite the opposite.

Prince is an active dog but would be good in a family environment, but he can jump high so 6 ft fencing would be essential.
