Greyhound Cross

Sam - 1 1/2 year old male Saluki cross Greyhound

Sam is a Saluki cross Greyhound male aged approximately 1 1/2 years old. He is black, tan and white. he was found in Richmond and the pound took him in. He is nervous of new people and dogs at the moment but with Rowan showing him the ropes he is settling quickly.

Sam will be available for re-homing once his confidence has increased, which we hope won’t be long with the TLC he is getting. He does love other dogs and people once he knows them.

Larry - 4 year old male Lurcher

Larry is a Lurcher (probably Greyhound cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier) male aged approximately 4 years old who has come to us via a dog warden, with a history of being a hard working dog, so I’d guess not cat friendly. He is prematurely greying around his muzzle, the rest of his body shows how fit he is. He’s such a happy little soul, his tail’s always wagging.

ll_larry.jpg

He’s clean and quiet in his kennel and he gets on well with other dogs BUT does pull on the lead, so I now walk him with a headcollar as he may only be little (about 22 inches) but he’s really strong! He’s a really lovely little dog and would make a great family pet as he adores people and children.

He deserves a loving home to retire to after his working days and to have a comfy sofa of his own.  Larry has been vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.

Tasha - 3 year old female Greyhound, Collie cross Bedlington Terrier

Meet the beautiful Tasha who has recently landed into the care of Greyhound Gap from a home situation. Tasha is a 3 year old medium sized Greyhound/Collie/Bedlington Terrier cross girl and is broken coated blue merle in colour. Tasha’s family were sad to part with her but she has been living with 4 other female dogs and sadly as Tasha can be a little nervy it was resulting in fights.

ggap_tasha.JPG

Tasha is very devoted to her owner and you can see the collie sneak in with her wanting to be with you. The owners did try leaving Tasha alone without the other dogs and with a few seconds of wining she settled down onto the sofa and slept.

Ideally Tasha would like an active home as an only dog with an owner around all or most of the time especially in the beginning to settle her in. She is a very clever girl eager to learn and very treat motivated so would easily train to become an agility dog or similar and would excel at obedience.

Tasha has been use to running off leash and her recall is also better as a singular dog, she seemed to get her confidence with the pack she was already with and we think this has also helped to lead to the fallings out between her and another bitch.

If Tasha were to be rehomed with another dog it would need to be an older steady male. During her settling period Tasha needs to be allowed to do her own thing, over reassurance would be too much for this girl and could lead to separation problems.

Tasha is great with children and is fine with other dogs out and about. Whoever gives this beautiful girl a home will have a loving, loyal companion for life. Tasha is currently still in kennels but as we would prefer a home for her as an only dog and so much is known about her history we are starting to look for a home.

Max - 18 month old male Greyhound Cross

Max is a fawn Greyhound cross who is around 18 months old. He was involved in a RTA and was taken into a vets for treatment by his owners. However when it came to paying the bill his owners would not pay, and left poor Max behind at the vets. GRWE were asked if we would take him, and so he came into our care.

grwe_max.JPG

Not suprisingly Max is unhappy in kennels. He is probably wondering where his family has gone, and what he has done to end up in a kennel! Max barks quite a lot in kennels but he is a nice dog who just needs someone to understand him!! Max is a bright lad who will shine for someone who is prepared to spend time with him.

In just a sort time he has learnt some basic commands and is desperate to please anyone who pays him attention. Please see beyond Max’s boisterous ways and offer him a home, and he will reward you handsomely.

Kym

Kym has come to Lurcher Link as the result of a relationship break up. She is 9 years old, Greyhound cross Bearded Collie so has a rough coat of dark grey/black. She used to be worked and so she isn’t cat friendly.

ll_kym.jpg

She is great with other dogs - she loves to play but she is always a bit apprehensive when first meeting new dogs but once she knows they aren’t going to hurt her then she runs around and loves to be with other dogs.

She is house-trained and used to being left whilst her owner was at work, but this is now very very long hours which isn’t fair to her. Kym is booked in next week for spaying and vaccinating etc She is micro-chipped and at the moment is in West Yorkshire.

Meg

Meg is an 11 year old Labrador cross Greyhound female, this friendly older lady belonged to an elderly gentleman who had owned Meg from a pup. He became too infirm to care for Meg any longer and reluctantly, with no other family to take her, she has been placed with us to be rehomed.

dcc_meg.jpg

She certainly doesn’t look her 11 years! She is house-trained but has probably been under socialised and as a result is wary of new situations, this sometimes comes across in little Collie-type nips. Because of this we feel she needs a home away from children and where she’ll find the space and time to relax into old age with someone who will love this friendly old girl.

Molly

Molly is a 2 year old female Greyhound cross Collie who has been with us for over a year now. When she first came to rescue she was suffering from a broken pelvis this has now completely healed and she has been passed completely fit to be re-homed, the vet informs us that Molly will suffer not long term problems with this injury and can live a completely full and (very) active life thank goodness as trying to keep her calm and quite would be a impossible she is a very bouncy girl!

evgl_molly.JPG

She loves everybody and everything and has a natural exuberance that makes people smile! She runs everywhere at top speed and has boundless energy. She loves playing with her foster brothers and sisters and would run all day if she could Molly would need to have other dogs in the home for her to play with as she just loves to have doggy playtime and so would benefit from a young doggy friend that will (try to) keep up with her.

Her recall is excellent and she will do almost anything for treats. She loves water and seems to attract mud like a magnet - she usually returns home after a walk a completely different colour! Her favourite walk is on the beach where she loves to chase the seagulls across the sand! So why is Molly still looking for a home?

evgl_molly2.JPG

Well, Molly is hard work! She finds being left alone and any change to her regular routine very hard to cope with. Her behaviour becomes very destructive, she barks and cries and will soil inside her bed. Although she has been trained to go into a crate, the barking and soiling continue inside the crate.

She has destroyed chairs, pulled wallpaper from walls and chewed tiles from a fireplace surround amongst other things. Turn your back on her for a few seconds, and she will have something else in her mouth! After a long day of play and mischief she is happy to sleep the night away in a dog bed in the bedroom - first dog to settle gets the softest bed!

She sleeps through the night and is always the last to get up in the morning! We don’t think that Molly would be cat friendly due to the fact that she would chase anything that ran for a game so no cats please. Molly is happy to go out in the car as long as her doggy brothers and sisters are with her she does get very excited as she knows that a trip out in the car normally means walkies.

So what sort of home is Molly looking for? She will need an active home, with someone around most of the time, and she definately needs the company of another dog. She loves children, but they would have to be big enough not to be knocked over during one of Molly’s mad moments!

Her new family will need to take into account her destructive tendencies when she is left and also have understanding or deaf neighbours!

Because Molly can be insecure and gets distressed when out in new environments we would like any prospective new owners to come and visit Molly several times to help he get to know and learn to trust the new people in her life, Molly is being fostered in Cardiff so adopters must be willing to travel to her. Molly says ‘if some one is coming to visit me doggy treats will really help me like you as I lovvvvvvvvvvve treats’. So that’s Molly.

The most loving, cuddly, wonderful devil dog in the world!

Yogi

Meet Yogi, he is a 1 1/2 year old castrated male Greyhound cross that has been with us since early March 2007, when he was brought in as a stray. Yogi is a typical Greyhound – friendly, affectionate and loves the company of humans bonding very quickly.

bcdh_yogi.jpg

He enjoys going for walks but can be surprisingly strong on the lead for a Greyhound so walks on a harness but calms down after a while, but would benefit from further lead training but must be muzzled when out and about. He knows some basic commands but as he is a bit of a Houdini is seeking a very secure home and garden.

Playful Yogi has bags of energy and loves to play with toys. He doesn’t like being left but will settle after a while so is seeking someone that is at home most of the day. He is not good with other canines, cats or small furries but would be fine in a family where any children are aged 10+.

Can you give our young lad a new loving home after being a stray?
