Greyhound
Jake – 5 year old male Greyhound
Jake is a five year old black male greyhound. He’s switches betweeen being excited to see you and out of his kennel when he sees a lead to not really knowing what to do when you give him a cuddle and some love. This is quite common with ex-racing Greyhounds. Jake is a full pedigree Greyhound (this can be traced from his ear tattoos and is shown on Greyhound data http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?rt=et<=stv&sex=m&color=&birthyear=&birthland).
His racing name was Lukayva. Jake was born in Ireland in October 2006 and raced 11 times in Birmingham in 2009 but as he’s turned up in rescue kennels he is now sadly be an unwanted asset. Can you offer this gentle boy the retirement home which will enable him to gain his confidence, learn how to play and enjoy cuddles? Greyhounds make such wonderful pets given a bit of time and TLC. Jake is fine with other dogs and good on the lead.

Sandy – 4 year old male Greyhound
Sandy is 4 year old male Greyhound. Sandy is a stunner & you would be proud to have him walking by your side as he is great on the lead .Sandy is a little bit confused at the moment but he is starting to learn that doggy life is good. He gets on well with other dogs and would love to be rehomed with another calm medium sized dog who would help him to enjoy life. He would prefer a quiet peaceful home where he can snooze happily most of the day. Sandy cannot be re-homed with small furrys.

Lizzie – 12 year old female Greyhound
Lizzie is a gorgeous – in her own way!!! – greyhound girl who came in with 12 yr old Jill – now homed, and 10 yr old Scooby – now a permanent foster dog. Liz had been kept by her trainer after racing but had not really got the retirement she dreamed of, kept in the garden and left to get very overweight and her teeth slowly rotting away.. Liz needed 24 teeth removing when she first arrived in our care. We do not think that Liz got out much either….well how things change….Liz has now lost 4 kilos and is fattening up nicely… she is starting to shed her incredibly thick polar bear coat and her lovely blue is showing through well! Liz will soon be unrecognisable and well… we can’t wait to see those pics. For now I’m afraid you will need to see past the rather unflattering ones we have of her….

We love Lizzie and so does her foster mum… here is what she says about this 10.5 year old puppy! So just Liz left waiting then… Well, what can I say about Lizzie? She’s a gorgeous girlie with a coat like a teddy bear! It’s early days, but so far Lizzie hasn’t put a paw wrong! She is a confident dog, loving her walks and her food, and pottering round the garden. She wasn’t bothered at all about going to see the vet, and took it all in her stride when we had surprise visitors on Saturday. She is showing a couple of typical greyhound traits – rather too much interest in squirrels and cats, and the idea that humans really don’t have anything better to do than give her cuddles! Lizzie was fine when we had some teenage children to visit. In fact, at the tender age of 10.5 years, Lizzie is very young at heart and has a whole world to explore. She hasn’t had to stay home alone yet, but I think she’ll miss human company more than the company of any canine friends!!! I can’t wait to see this girl emerge from her cocoon – she has already discovered the delights of showing the teddy bears who’s boss. Liz is very food oriented and will counter-surf. She has learnt to keep her distance when humans are eating, and a sharp “NO” will prevent her from helping herself out of another dog’s bowl! In fact, she is generally responsive and with time (and treats!) she could be a very obedient girl. I believe Lizzie will really flourish in a home as an only dog – she loves attention, and would really rather not have to share it!! Outside the house Lizzie is happy to meet other dogs, large and small, but cats wisely give her a wide berth.

Zulu has been in our care for several months – spending most of that time in foster. Zulu is in foster with a lady who has fostered for over four years – she has cared for many many dogs – she says Zulu has been her nicest boy!!! theres praise indeed… this is what she says about him. Zulu is a small black greyhound boy who is now ready for his forever home. He is quite a smart dog, learns fast usually all the things he shouldn’t but that’s normal! He’s an affectionate boy with lots of love for everyone. Very well behaved most of the time but has his moments as they all do. He is nice with other dogs and once he has met them, takes hardly any notice of smalls. He is more interested than keen and once he knows that it’s a dog he’s fine.

Zulu will settle as an only dog or live with another he likes company so would appreciate a stay at home mum if possible but can be left for a couple of hours while you shop etc.

Zulu is clean in the house, walks nicely on the lead and is very responsive.

Sophie is a very sweet and appealing petite greyhound girl. Sophie is really very small & delicate. Sophie will turn 2 in July 2012. Sophie is a funny little girl, she has some peculiar ways and will need a special home to take her on…Sophie has been in our care for some time, spending some time in a home, but she is now back in kennels where she has a routine and consistency, she is a very happy little girl and everyone falls in love with her….
Sophie has a very quirky nature and someone really will need to take her on knowing she is not like a normal dog – Sophie is not nervous and in fact is a very lovely little girl… she just doesnt have the same reactions as more handled dogs and will take time to bond, trust and understand what you are asking of her, you will need to think outside of the box and really want to bring this girl on. She is adorable and worth the time and patience. Sophie is quiet and calm in the home, she loves her dinner times and dances around like a baby deer – very cute to see… Sophie sleeps well all night and is fine about being left for a few hours in the day.

Sophie does not like crates or confinement so small rooms and shut away will not suit her, she will bebetter left on hard floors initially and through the night as she is not 100% housetrained yet Sophie is looking for a patient owner/s who will understand that she still has a long way to come..
Sophie is learning about lead walking but hasnt quite mastered walking forward and keeping the momentum! A garden is a must esp for the early days until Sophie has adjusted and learnt where you walk – she likes her routines! Sophie will need another dog to live with.
Sophie is going to be an ongoing developer and she will be very rewarding to “get there” if you have the right outlook to bring Sophie one – and alot of it will just take time… then please, get in touch and give us your details.

His stats plus a picture are on the Irish web site. Joe has adapted well to life off the track and has settled in with our pack and is very bright and obedient, even good on the recall. He has a free run every day which he loves. Joe is not cat friendly. He will be a super boy for some lucky owner.
