Greyhound
Whiskey - 3 year old male Greyhound
Whiskey is a super Greyhound male who is around 3 years old and who really deserves a break. He has been with us a long time and we are very fond of him. Whiskey came to us from a dog pound so we know nothing of his history. We re-homed him with a family but he was returned to us following some incidents where he challenged both adults.

Whiskey knows his own mind and can be very single-minded when he chooses to be! However, Whiskey has lots of very positive points and in the right home will make a loving and loyal pet.
Whiskey needs someone who is a strong leader yet who is not going to meet his challenges with more challenges, as this will mean that Whiskey will rack things up a notch! A calm confident person who will show Whiskey that they are in charge will mean that he can relax and start enjoying life!
Whiskey is a very bright dog who loves a game of ball and lots of interaction with people. He can sit and his recall is good too, as is his house-training. Whiskey loves people and responds well to those whom he respects. He can at times be quite full-on with other dogs but has lived very happily with a Greyhound bitch in the past, and will happily play with dogs whom he knows and has been introduced to. He cannot live with cats.

Daisy is a very pretty 2 1/2 year old blue and white Greyhound female. Daisy is an ex-racer but broke a toe recently and so she was retired. The toe was removed and as she previously lost a toe on the other foot, she only has three on each of her front two paws. She has spent some time in a house following her foot operation, and is nearly there with her house-training.

Daisy is a very nervous girl who is wary of human contact and any loud noises or sudden movements. Daisy is quiet and is non destructive and is fine with other dogs including small ones. Daisy needs a quiet house with no young children and preferably another dog who will give her confdence.
She needs a patient owner who wants to nurture a dog, give her space and doesn’t expect instant love and devotion. Daisy will be a bit of a project, but when she settles down she will make a wonderful pet. She cannot go to a home with cats.

Nellie is an ex-racing Greyhound who is now looking for a comfy retirement sofa. She has raced 77 times and now at the age of nearly 5 she feels its time for a rest. She has come directly from her trainer. She is a lovely, friendly and affectionate girl who loves people and who will soon adapt to her new life in a home enironment.

Many people comment on how easily ex-racers adapt to life in a home, and of course because they are so used to a routine they will inevitably just “slot in” to living in a home with the minimum of fuss. We are sure that Nellie will be no different!

Guiness will be 6 years old in October. He is an ex-racing Greyhound whose racing history shows his his last race was in 2005. Where he has been in the meantime is anyones guess. He was picked up as a stray and was never claimed, like so many other Greyhounds who are cast out when they are no longer fast enough.

Guinness was in a stray pound and GRWE were asked to take him as the pound was getting full and spaces were tight. Guiness is a sociable boy who loves everybody and is very good natured. He will make a wonderful pet.

Lucy is a 6 year old Greyhound bitch who is an ex-racer. She finished racing some time ago and has been living in a home since then. For reasons which were nothing to do with Lucy, she was up for re-homing and so came into our care. Lucy is a solidly built girl who loves other people and is keen to make friends.

She is house-trained and is able to be left for periods of time on her own. She is a steady girl who needs some stability in her life after all the upheaval she has had, and will be a lovely companion for the right person. Lucy cannot go to a home with cats.

Introducing Mad Max, a 6 year old male Greyhound, who our lovely madcap 100 mile-an-hour boy! He retired from racing on a flapping track 6 months ago with no injuries and has been waiting for a place in kennels ever since. When he came into rescue Max was very fat and quite stressed.
He’s quite breathless when he is running (in a safe enclosed paddock) and it seems like he has had very little exercise since he retired from racing. We are building his exercise up slowly and Max is getting fitter by the day. Max has only ever known kennel life and has had a very limited world up until now.
He takes every new experience in his stride and is making the most of his new environment and lovng every minute of it! He is a confident dog who is great with people and has previously shared his kennel with a Greyhound bitch. He will need to be carefully introduced to other breeds of dog as he simply does not know what other breeds of dogs are, having been used to just Greyhounds up until now. He cannot go to a home with cats.

Freya is a 1 1/2 year old black Greyhound female who has come to us from a flapping track. She has no injuries but was just not up to speed. She is a happy, friendly girl who is not too bouncy for her age. She is a sociable girl who likes other dogs and of course like all Greyhounds loves people.

Freya met some children the other day and approached them with her tail wagging and her eyes bright, so maybe somewhere in her past she has met children before ~ who knows. At the moment Freya is not looking her best as she is underweight and has had a flea allergy so her coat is thin and poor.
She has been bathed, flea treated, and is putting on weight now she has settled in. In just a short time she will have a coat so shiny that you will be able to see your face in it! Freya cannot go to a home with cats.

Charlie will be 3 years old in October and is an ex-racing Greyhound. His career on the track was not a glittering one as he only raced 16 times before it was time to hang up his jacket and call it a day. He was handed in to our care by his trainer together with his sister Sophie.

His owner really wanted him to have a pet home and would have loved to keep him but doesn’t have the room. Charlie is a large dog but could only be described as a gentle giant. He is really cuddly and affectionate and will make someone a wonderful pet.

Harry is a an stunning brindle greyhound boy who is 4 years old. He was going to be put to sleep because his family were going abroad to live. He is fit, healthy and a lovely boy. He is very sweet but nervous and unfortunately we have had to put him in kennels as there are no foster space.

He really needs a home asap as kennels as he is not happy in kennels. A volunteer spent some time with him and said: “Harry enjoyed leading on the walk and got on well with Dan, looking around showing interest, he didn’t seem to respond to fuss but this is a new thing for him. Harry is good on the lead liking to sniff”.
With some time and TLC Harry should really come out of himself.

Daniel is a beautiful fawn Greyhound male about 3 years old (bit wet from the rain in these photos). He is tall but slim in build. He has just come on from thepound but first impressions are he is a lovely lad. One of our volunteers spent some time with him and has this to say “he is fab, elegant and when he walks he keeps part of his tongue out of the left side of his mouth.

Very gentle on the lead, walks to heal. Daniel is just so calm. He wasn’t very keen, always looking forward rather than at sheep etc, Daniel enjoyed fuss and was wagging heavily when I cuddled him in his pen”.
