Loves going out in the car and playing in water, pulls like a tank on the lead. He has been left alone a lot, lately and has started to get a bit destructive, but the days he has a walk he has been as good as gold. Suite a family with older children, with time and patience will make a lovely family dog.

Frank is an 11 year old black Labrador boy who is in an Oldies Club foster home in Milton Keynes, Bucks, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.

Settled quite quickly: Frank was clean and quiet through the night from Day 1 at his foster home but it took him about a week to settle fully.

Fine to be left: Frank can be left for a few hours but he enjoys having a companion. His foster carer feels that if he had a doggy pal for company he would be suitable for full-time workers provided he had a walk or garden break part way through the day.

Likes being with dogs: At his foster home, Frank is living with two rather aloof dogs, but Frank would really enjoy living with a dog that enjoyed interacting with him. He’d be fine as an only dog if he had human company most of the time.

Could live with confident cats: Frank doesn’t see the two cats in his foster home very much because they live upstairs and Frank doesn’t go upstairs. He can do a row of about 20 outside steps without a problem but he just doesn’t want to go upstairs in the house! When he has seen the cats he has seemed interested – in an excited, curious way – but is easily distracted by just calling his name, so his foster carer thinks confident cats would be OK.

Could live with children aged 7+ years: The youngest child Frank has met since being in foster is 7 and all was fine. We wouldn’t recommend Frank living with younger children but this is only because he can get quite excited and may knock a small child over. Also, when he’s excited he sometimes tugs at your clothes, not really hard, but might pull a small child over.

Enjoys moderate walks; excellent on lead: Frank is very good on the lead — you hardly know he’s there! His recall is good and he doesn’t wander too far away, but if other dogs are around, his foster carer puts him on the lead, otherwise he’ll run over to them. He’s having two 30-minute walks per day, which seems about right for him. An hour’s walk makes him quite stiff later in the day

Good in the car: Frank is good in the car so long as it’s moving. While stationary he barks, continuously – obviously shouting “get a move on”!

Frank’s favourite pastimes: Being brushed; Walks; Breakfast; Dinner! Oh, and fuss and cuddles.

Frank’s perfect home: Frank would fit into almost any home. He’s not demanding at all, just loves his short walks, food and attention. He’s not really interested in toys.

Health notes: Frank is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. Frank is missing one toe and the end of his tail due to a past injury, but this doesn’t bother him in the slightest. He is having metacam for the arthritis in his hips and he’s doing brilliantly on it. He has 2 tiny warts on his eyelid but the vet has advised to leave them as they’re not bothering him. Since coming into our care, Frank’s had an anal gland tumour removed which proved to be malignant. The vet has confirmed that it was all removed successfully but of course there’s no guarantee it won’t appear somewhere else. Frank is a very good boy at the vets.

Foster carer’s summary of Frank: “Affectionate; Intelligent; Curious. He makes a grumbly mumbly noise sometimes but this is just his way of talking!”

Rolo is a absolutely beautiful 20 month old Chocolate Labrador. Rolo is a gorgeous, sweet natured girl that has had far too much change in her short life. It’s hard to believe that a sweet natured chocolate lab bitch of 20 months with no real behavioral issues can have been so unlucky as to have had 7 homes… Sadly her first owner died and she has never been settled any where since. She really has the sweetest nature and loves absolutely everyone, that said, she will alert bark when she hears noises/people outside, then lick them to death when they come in!

Rolo like lots of gun dogs can be a bit oral and likes to have something in her mouth, she did have a bit of a mouthing problem when she arrived in that she would very gently mouth arms and so on (and when I say gently I mean you can barely feel it), however given simple redirection of a toy to carry at times of excitement and her knowing what she ‘is’ supposed to do rather than what she ‘isn’t’ supposed to do – she is not mouthing in her foster home. However it is a default behavior for her and she will do it when over excited or stressed so it may well re-appear when she moves again but as long as you follow the advice that we and Rolo’s fosterer (who is a behaviourist) give you, it is not a problem at all, it is normal young gun dog behavior that just needs direction.

This girl just needs someone to understand that moves for animals are difficult and it can take even the loveliest of animals a while to settle into a new routine. Due to all of the change in her young life, Rolo is in need of a calm and stable home. Someone who is going to be kind and patient with her while she settles. She has been on foster for a couple of months now and has settled so much, but moving on to someone else she will again need time to settle as this will be another change for her. She can be built up to being left for about three/four hours without a problem but she is happiest with company and needs a home with someone around a good bit of the time.

She is very bright and responsive and loves to be doing things with her person – she has been a dream to do training with. Rolo has been doing some basic agility, just building up slowly and she is a natural at it.Her fosterer has also built up some ball drive (though a flyball environment would not be suitable for her, too much going on and too much adrenaline).

She loves play with other dogs, rough and tumble is her favorite. Although she loves her rough and tumble she has got quite good at listening to another dog that she knows about when enough is enough and is polite in her play. There are however some issues with other dogs, in terms of if a dogs she doesn’t know tells her to go away in an over the top manner then she will take it as a threat and react accordingly so care needs to be taken when meeting new dogs, i.e. just asking if the other dog is OK to be met by a friendly bouncy chocolate nut bag – as if the other dog is fine she is fab. She can take telling off just fine from dogs she knows, it really is a confidence thing.

While she is in foster with several other dogs and loves their company and I have no problems with her here, there has been a problem with one dog in one home and due to the fact that she has had so many homes we want to minimize the chance of anything going wrong so have decided to home her as an only dog. She will need some doggie pals to play with out and about though.

She is toilet trained, non destructive (though like previously said, she does know with guidance like to greet with something in her mouth and if nothing is to hand then this could be the food bowl or she has even been found trying to pick up her bed to greet me with, very cute!) All in all a lovely dog that we am desperate to find the right home for as she really is the loveliest dog just needs someone to love forever! If you have any questions at all then please get in touch.

Rolo is on foster in Swindon but we home across the UK. If you’re interested in adopting Rolo, please read our adoption guidelines and procedure;

Ben Black Labrador 1-3 yrs. Ben is a very handsome young man and is a stunning example of his breed, he is friendly and outgoing and will need an active home to keep him happy. Although Ben is a bit keen on the lead, he is very responsive and will be easy to train, he learned ‘sit’ with the aid of a treat very easily . Ben is a large lad who is prone to overexcitment when greeting other dog, he gets on well with his kennel mate but needs to learn some manners when greeting out on walks, he is just so keen to meet others , 2 and 4 legs, that he forgets how to be polite!. Ben will make a great all round pet given the right home and a consist ant owner.
