Lakeland Terrier
Jack – 10 year old male Border Terrier cross Lakeland Terrier
This is Jake and he is a 10 year old male Border Terrier cross Lakeland Terrier and what a handsome little fellow he is too! He’s currently in an Oldies Club foster home in Stevenage, Hertfordshire waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home. Jack’s fosterers tell us that he’s a very friendly little fellow and it didn’t take long for him to settle in. After only a couple of days he had made himself at home.
Jack is happy to be left alone for a few hours at a time and he often just sits waiting patiently on his mat or has a little peek out of the window to see if you’re coming home. He’s always pleased to see you and gives you a very enthusiastic greeting on your return. If he’s unsure of visitors to the house he’ll bark to let you know, but soon quietens down when told.

Jack will bark at other dogs, but generally he’s fine and likes to go over for a sniff. He hasn’t lived with another dog before, but his fosterers think he’d be fine if he could be given a gentle introduction.
Jack loves the attention he gets from children. We were told that his previous owner had young grandchildren and Jack was a real star with them. He currently lives with two boys, aged 12 and 15, and often comes into contact with others, aged 7 and 11. He’s always very happy to have some fuss and attention and will roll over on his back with his paws in the air to enjoy a good old tummy rub.
Jack loves to go for walks and he’s good on the lead. He does pull a little to begin with, but walks to the side of you once he’s calmed down. He responds well to his name too.

Jack is a good traveller so he’ll make an excellent companion for anyone who enjoys holidaying with their canine friend. He loves to sit looking out of the window and sometimes he’ll bark at passing dogs, but that’s just all part of the fun!
Jack enjoys playing and is particularly fond of chasing a tennis ball around. He enjoys doing this more when he’s inside the house, probably because when he’s out and about he has other things to hold his attention.
Jack would be happy living in a house or ground floor flat as long as he has an enclosed garden area in which to play and explore. A family environment with sensible children would be great for him and he’d like someone who can take him for regular walks.
Jack only has a couple of things he doesn’t like. He isn’t keen on cats and he’s also not happy about being touched near the base of his tail. We believe this is due to a previous vet visit when he had treatment on his anal passage.
Jack has some moles on his body, but the vet has advised that they aren’t causing any problems and therefore don’t need removing. Jack has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and flea and worm-treated.

This is Lassie and she is a is a 2-3 years old female Lakeland Terrier. She is a very bright active little dog with a happy personality. Lassie will need lots of walks and not left alone for long periods or she gets distressed and chews. She is walked on an extending lead as her recall off lead is not good, she is a typical terrier and if off lead will run about in the undergrowth hunting for interesting smells. Lassie is an escape artist and will climb over garden fences unless very high and secure – we recommend 6-7 foot fencing. If the garden is not fenced well enough then Lassie must never be left alone in the garden. Lassie is very affectionate and loves to cuddle up on your lap whilst you watch TV. She is housetrained and sleeps in her bed in the kitchen. She travels well in the car and loves to be out and about with her owners.

Mudge – 7 year old female Lakeland Terrier
Mudge is a 7 year old female “Working” Lakeland Terrier; as opposed to Show or Pedigree Lakeland … that makes her a little more terrier and especially appealing to terrier lovers. Fine to be left for short periods.

Mudge is middle aged and nicely rounded and grounded. She is great on a lead and good off lead once she knows her territory and is connected in with her people and distracted early on from obvious ‘curiousities!’ She mixes with children and enjoys toy play and knows basic commands. She loves other dogs, but has found it challenging to fall into to the son in-laws-pack. She had had a couple of goes with blood drawn on one occassion and so sadly the family feel she would be better living as a only dog again and mixing outside.

Mudge is a loving character who charms all who meet her. She will get you out and mixing with local folk, she’ll tell you when the postman has come and she’ll even tell you when its time for afternoon tea! She is neutered, chipped and has booster vaccinations due. She is quite easy in terrier terms. She has just stated her case that she doesn’t really want to be in a large pack when she has always had her humans all to herself … “thank you”! Currently in Oxon.
