Lurcher Cross

Ruby – 2 1/2 year old female Lurcher cross German Shepherd Dog

Ruby is a very pretty 2 1/2 year old female Lurcher cross German Shepherd Dog. She is very loving and loyal.
Poor Ruby has experienced a terrible trauma sometime in her young life. It is suspected that she had boiling oil poured over her back. Thankfully the scarring is now covered by fur and the vet has confirmed that the skin has healed and Ruby will not require any ongoing treatment.

Despite her trauma you couldn’t wish to meet a more affectionate, happy and obedient dog as Ruby, who really wants to please and be with you.

Ruby bonds strongly with her carers so we are looking for a home where Ruby can be someone’s number one companion and who can give her lots of attention. Ruby would also do well with an owner sensible enough not to allow her to become too dependent on them.

Ruby loves retrieving a ball, including those that go into the sea and she will retrieve a ball until she is completely worn out! Ruby also loves playing with other dogs and will try to get dogs to chase her for fun. She will play with dogs of any size.

From a distance Ruby panics when she sees another dog and she will bark and jump about when she is on a lead. Off the lead, she will run up to other dogs, sniff them and come back to you. We feel, therefore, that Ruby is better off in a rural area where she is less likely to be on a lead coming into contact with lots of other dogs.

Ruby lives happily with other dogs. She would be a great companion for another dog. Ruby could possibly live with a cat. Ruby is likely to be fine around sensible children from 10 upwards.

Chester – 10 year old male Lurcher Cross

Chester is a lovely 10 year old male Lurcher Cross. Chester has just been handed in by an upset owner whose circumstances have changed. He’s well trained and a very easy dog to own. Easy to walk, lovely with all people and other dogs. He has lived with other dogs but prefers human company and all the attention. Chester does suffer from separation anxiety so needs new owners that are home most of the time and that will take him with them when they go out.

Kelsey – 8 month old male Labrador cross Lurcher

Kelsey is a beautiful 8 month old male Labrador cross Lurcher. Kelsey is a gorgeous honey colour with the sweetest, kindest eyes you could ever see. He really loves other dogs and just wants to be every dog’s friend. He adores people, but as he has had some trauma in his past, he can still be wary of new people coming into the house. He will bark at new people, but it’s just a fear thing and he would never actually be nasty. New people just frighten him. He can also be a bit nervous still when out on walks in busy places, but this is only to be expected given what he has been through. He is gaining his confidence every day though. He is also excellent with children (over the age of 8. We don’t rehome any dogs to families with children under 8 years) and he could happily live with cats.

Kelsey had a very heavy worm burden when he first arrived, and he was very thin, he still needs to put on some weight, as the worms took their toll on his little frame, but he has been fully treated for it, and is recovering nicely, but he still needs to gain some physical strength. We feel that he is not strong enough to be neutered at the moment…Our usual policy is to neuter all dogs before they are rehomed, but in this case, it’s not right for Kelsey and as a one off will be amended. We therefore insist that he is neutered after rehoming, when he is strong enough physically. We will amend our adoption agreement to reflect this, but we will be arranging the neutering ourselves so that we can ensure it is carried out. The adopter will need to sign this agreeement. Kelsey adores being cuddled and playing with his toys. He is now also housetrained.

We would prefer a home in the south west area for Kelsey. He does suffer from car sickness, although this has improved a great deal. He is now ‘drooly’ in the car, rather than actually being sick. He is also much better in the car with someone who he trusts sat next to him or with doggie company in the car.

The ideal home for Kelsey would be with a family or an active couple who have one or more other dogs for him to play with. We would also want whoever offers him a home to continue his socialisation and take him to training classes. He was a very despondent and depressed little man when he first arrived. He had been through things a pup should never have to go through. He is a very special boy and we are looking for a very special home for him to stay for the rest of his life.

Sophie – 4 year old female Collie cross Lurcher

Sophie is a 4 year old Lurcher cross Collie and has come into our care, from a family home, through absolutely no fault of her own and she is devastated. Sophie is good with other dogs, and has lived with another dog previously, but it is felt that she may well benefit now from being an only dog where she can shine in her own right and not be pushed into the background.

Sophie would love human company for the vast majority of the day, can live with sensible children aged 8 plus, but cannot live with cats . She enjoys her walks, although will need to be walked on the lead indefinitely, and loves nothing better than to flop down after a nice beach or countryside walk to sleep it off!

Sophie is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Sophie is at our Centre on the outskirts of King’s Lynn, Norfolk, but can be rehomed outside of the county subject to a successful homecheck.

Sophie really really needs a permanent home, with people who will love and look after her properly and understand her needs.

Can you provide Sophie with the right home please? If so we’d love to hear from you.

Jess – 1 1/2 year old female Lurcher

Jess is a wonderful Lurcher cross German Shepherd dog who is 1 year old with larger paws giving a Shepherd feel in with her breeding mix. She delights in everything that is offered to her and truly appreciates kindness and inclusion. Jess was found stray and in a sad state for a young dog. She had been starved and was food hungry and remained so. She needs 4 meals day to take the edge off of food searching. Her instincts are play with others she wants contact, but is novice. Doesn’t cope well with the ‘behind bars’ of kennel life. Very keen in her focus and awareness of all around her. Enjoys stimulation, loads of acknowledgement and fuss. Not for cats or small furries.

Jess is a beautiful dog. She is our saddest dogs currently so obviously having had a dark past. She loves company. She needs an aware home who can accept her ‘rawness’ of behaviours as she attempts to please without having a full repertoire of skills yet to back it up. She can catch with her teeth if deflected from her intent pursuit or if rushed and handled without due sensitiveness or negotiation.

She treats humans as she would. She is improving all the time as she learns our intentions are loving kindness. However this means Jess needs to live with a family who can accept her ‘rawness’ of reactions and give her time and forgiveness whilst her rawness moves into trust and respect. She adores her walks and walks nicely, meets dogs well. Housetraining has been achieved in her current home. She is a truly wonderful dog in the making, but will take time. She needs sensitivity to see her signs; a look in the eyes, a raising of a lip. A real rescue dog that deserves the work she needs.

She is based in Gatwick.
