Saluki Cross
Frank and Amber - 2 year old and 5 year old male and female Saluki Crosses
Frank (male) and Amber (female) come as a pair, these two Lurchers are medium sized and are Saluki crosses. Frank is around 2 years old and Amber is around 5 they were found close together and we think they may well be mother and son, or related in some way. As you can see from the photo Frank has not been well cared for and has a very bad flea allergy.

(Frank, pictured above)
This has been treated with tablets and skin bathes, and he is now clear from fleas. However his coat is a bit of a mess and sadly he is not looking at his best. All this will change when he gets into his new home and benefits from some love, good food and lots of cuddles though, we know from experience. Frank relies heavily on Amber for support. Amber is a quiet little girl who is clean in kennels and loves nothing more than a cuddle from whoever is spending time with her.

(Amber, pictured above)
Frank was in a big inner city dogs home before he came to us, and probably the noise frightened him there, as we have seen no evidence of this whatsoever. He is a dear boy, and we love him to bits! Amber is such a gentle girl, and Frank adores her. They will make a fabulous pair of dogs for one lucky person.
They need a loving home with someone who is going to show them some home comforts and kindness after their poor start in life. Could these two dogs make themselves at home on your settee?
25Jun2008 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MORESlater - 4-5 year old male Whippet cross Saluki
Meet the stunningly beautiful Slater. Slater is a 4 - 5 year old Whippet cross Saluki who is cat friendly. He recently landed in our care from a stray pound situation after being picked up as a stray so nothing is known of his past history. Slater is now in foster care with 2 female Greyhounds and 1 male Lurcher and is fine with them but at the moment pays them little attention and is happy to sleep and settle on his bed.

There is also a 4 year old child in the foster home who again Slater is fine with and is no problem with the resident cat infact ignored it and showed absolutly no interest. Slater is only a little boy and is very fine boned, slender and pretty almost too pretty for a male dog. He walks well on leash, in fact you dont know you have him. He is clean in the home and fine to be left in the company of the other dogs and settles down and sleeps well overnight.
The first night the foster carer tried to crate him as he hadn’t been there long and to keep him safe incase of any problems between him and the resident dogs but he did cry and whinge all night. The second night she left him lose and he was fine and has been fine to be left when she has been out during the day.
All in all in the house Slater is very settled and chilled out and relaxed. Now the bad point which is only minor and will get better. Slater is a VERY nervous traveller. He struggles to settle in the car and gets upset. The foster carer is getting around this by travelling him in a crate which he is already starting to settle in but will usually wet himself. In just the two days though that she has been introducing short journeys to the walk etc he is already much improved. Whoever offers the beautiful Slater a home would need to be willing to continue introducing him to travel.
Slater would be happy in a multi dog home but we also feel equally happy as an only dog with part time workers or someone around most of the time to settle him in. Slater is vaccinated, KC vaccinated, deflead, dewormed, micro-chipped and castrated.

Rosie is a 3 year old brindle Saluki cross female with feathering. She is very nervous and skittish of things she’s unsure of. She needs an experienced owner who will be able to deal with her anxiousness when out on walks. She’s also good with other dogs and people but not cat friendly. Rosie is fine with children and is house-trained and okay to be left for short periods.

Sam - 1 1/2 year old male Saluki cross Greyhound
Sam is a Saluki cross Greyhound male aged approximately 1 1/2 years old. He is black, tan and white. he was found in Richmond and the pound took him in. He is nervous of new people and dogs at the moment but with Rowan showing him the ropes he is settling quickly.

Sam will be available for re-homing once his confidence has increased, which we hope won’t be long with the TLC he is getting. He does love other dogs and people once he knows them.

Molly is a 4 year old Greyhound female and and Rosie is a 3 year old female Saluki cross who have come to us because their owner is no longer able to give them the attention they need. She was devastated to give them up but realised it was best for them to find a new home - together if possible.

(Molly, pictured above)
She’s quite confident and outgoing, very friendly to people and other dogs but NOT cat friendly! She’s just come into season so we need to wait till we can get her spayed. She’s white with black patches and is very pretty. She’s also suffering with “Happy Tail” at the moment.

(Rosie, pictured above)
She is very nervous and skittish of things she’s unsure of and this is why we’d rather she was rehomed with Molly if possible, so give her confidence. She needs an experienced owner who will be able to deal with her anxiousness when out on walks. She’s also good with other dogs and people but NOT cat friendly. Both Molly and Rosie are fine with children and are house-trained and okay to be left for short periods. Rosie is to be spayed next week.

Janek is a young black and tan Saluki cross male aged between 12-18 months old. Janek has come to us via a dog warden in Cumbria, who took him to the vet to try and save his broken leg (sadly too old an injury and too far gone to do so) and once Janek had the leg removed, the dog warden fostered him at his own house until well enough to come to us.

As you can see from his photograph above, he is now missing a hind leg, but that’s certainly not slowing him down any - he’s been out running for 20 minutes a couple of times a day whilst he’s been in foster care. Janek is house-trained and good with other dogs and has been well behaved with the dog wardens kittens and chooks too. He can be a little nervy with strangers, but soon settles down once he realises they’re not going to hurt him. He loves being cuddled.
29Mar2008 | Lurcher Link | READ MOREAndy - 1 1/2 - 2 years old male Saluki Cross
Andy is a striking looking fawn Saluki cross aged between 1 1/2 - 2 years old who was found tied up in a yard with another female. Sad Andy was in very poor condition, but slowly he is looking better. Andy is said to be a generally nice dog who is very much in need of his own home and loving owner.
Clyfford - 2 year old male Saluki Cross
Clyfford is a fawn Saluki cross male who is around 2 years old. Clyfford was a ‘throw-away’ dog nobody wanted and was found wandering with three other dogs. Clyfford and his pals were rounded up and taken to the local pound but nobody came forward to claim them.
Clyfford has some fear aggression towards other dogs and can be very vocal in kennels. This may be less of a problem once he is settled in a home. Despite his barking at other dogs Clyfford is a firm favourite at the kennels as he just loves humans to bits - a cuddle and a chin rub really makes his day!
11Mar2008 | Greyhound Rescue West of England | READ MORESandy - 12-18 month old male Saluki cross Lurcher
Who is going to make Sandy’s life change for the better? Sandy is a 12 - 18 month old Saluki cross Lurcher who came to us from Ireland where he had been found wandering as a stray. After a six-month stay in a general rescue, GRWE were asked to help as there was no realistic prospect of him finding a home in Ireland. And so he made the crossing to us.
(Image courtesy of Western Daily Press)
We recently removed Sandy from the re-homing section as we felt that his injured leg needed some more investigation. He has had x-rays on his leg and he was referred to a specialist orthopaedic veterinary surgeon for some more investigations as it seemed likely that Sandy might need to have an operation on his leg. After a thorough investigation the vet is now satisfied that this is not necessary.

Sandy has put on a little weight, his coat has improved and he has a jaunty spring in his step too. He is very happy in his foster home where he spends his days playing, playing and playing some more!! We are delighted he is now ready for re-homing. Sandy needs some canine friends to keep him occupied and has tested friendly with cats.
He is happy to be left for periods as long as he has the company of other dogs. Sandys’ hatred of cars is a little improved, but he still gets travel sick and needs bags of reassurance whilst in the car. This is something which will need to be worked on and we will of course help Sandys’ new owner with plenty of help and advice. Sandy is a super dog who will make a great pet for a lucky Saluki lover!
