Phebe – 5 year old female Saluki cross Whippet

Phebe came to us recently from another rescue. They had had problems with Phebe in two foster homes and as they were more generic, felt that Phebe needed to be with sighthound aware people. Phebe is only small around 23inches and is we think saluki cross whippet. Now she has moved into foster with two quiet male sighthounds she has settled well and gives the grumpy one a wide birth so is sensible enough to know who to avoid and who to spend time with.

Phebe is a very timid girl so needs a lovely quiet home with patience and tlc to allow her to warm to you in her own time. We therefore stipulate no children pre-teen because although she gets on with the 5 year old grandchild who visits in the foster home now, she was worried by a 6 year old in the other rescues foster home and nipped his bum when he was running around her.

Phebe has obviously at sometime known a very rough hand and is a little collar shy. If you lunge to grab her to move her she will nip so it’s best to gently call her to you and she comes happily.

Out on walks Phebe is a good girl and does not dance around or lunge when she sees other dogs. We do walk her in a muzzle simply because again the other foster homes said that if dogs ran into her face she had a tendency to try to nip in fear. This however is not something we have seen.

Phebe is spotlessly clean and good to be left. Her ideal home is with either with an older male lurcher or greyhound who are happy to snooze their days away and will not try to push her into play, or as an only dog with a quiet couple who will have plenty of time to settle her in to begin with. She loves nothing more than to spend her evenings cuddled up to you on the sofa.

Phebe travels well and settles easily in the car.

Although Phebe is so quiet and gentle the only time she will get ridiculously over excited is when visitors come. She loves to meet new people and will try to jump up them LITERALLY! If you ask her to sit though she will and will just then offer them her paw. In the beginning it may be best to place her safely in another room to allow them to come in and settle and then let her in to say hello to them.

Phebe is vaccinated, kennel cough vaccinated, treated for parasites microchipped and spayed.

Willow – 18 month old Saluki Cross

Willow arrived with us recently from a stray pound environment and is now in foster with two other dogs and 4 cats and is doing well. If Willow is to be rehomed with cats he will need to be with dog savvy cats who will stand their ground. He is fine with them when they are milling around or in the same room but still likes to attempt to have a chase if one of the cats run. It’s very early days though and his foster home is keeping on top of this and he gets better each day. A firm NO or LEAVE IT does though stop him in his tracks. There is no malice in his chasing just play but it would not be fair on cats who may be worried by this behaviour.

Willow gets on well with the dogs in the foster home but is a little more pushy with the male, the whippet female though tells them both off and keeps this under wraps and he is listening. We therefore feel that Willow’s ideal home would be with a playful female companion who will not be afraid to tell him off if he gets too silly and help keep him in his place.

Willow is lovely with people and could be rehomed with dog savvy children 4 plus. Out on walks Willow walks beautifully. He does get a bit silly and lunges if he sees other dogs running off leash but this is understandable as he gets frustrated and wants to go and play. If passing dogs under control he has a look and takes no notice, he does pay a little more attention to smaller dogs so some socialisation work would be necessary. We would recommend that Willow is taken to socialisation classes.

Willow has been left for a couple of hours with the other dogs and has settled fine, he is left loose after an initial couple of times in a crate and has done no damage. He also has not had one accident since arriving in foster.

This is the gorgeous Cassie. Cassie is a whippet sized, Saluki cross Whippet girl of around 5 years old. Cassie is gentle, sweet and friendly. Cassie is good with other dogs, and also seems ok with cats, and could live with a dog savy cat.

Cassie walks lovely on the lead, is clean and non destructive in her kennel. Cassie sits, and loves her treats.

Can you offer this calm and gentle girl the home she longs for ?

Shai – 12-18 month old female Saluki Cross

Shai is a beautiful saluki cross girl who came to us from the pound as an unclaimed stray. We believe she was left behind in fields by hare coursers. Shai is young, prob between 12 – 18 mnths. She is sweet and gentle but playful and happy which is lovely to see, she has been well handled and loves a fuss and attention – Shai was not microchipped, nor claimed during her 7 days in the pound so we presume she was not missed, nor wanted.

Shai is looking for a home with knowledge of saluki types and an understanding of their drives and desire to run – across big open fields!!! Shai will need some work and training effort put in so that she will eventually be safe and able to have a run offlead.

We think another well trained dog for Shai to grow up with will be a great advantage. Shai is calm around children and very social with all other dogs, Shai has also been cat tested and with the right direction and sensible precautions she would be able to learn to live alongside cats.

Shai is living in foster care and is enjoying all her home comforts, she seems very relaxed and quiet and has been no trouble atall… but she has other company of dogs and humans around her.

Shai – 12-18 month old female Saluki Cross

Laddie – 3-4 year old male Saluki Cross

Laddie is a male Saluki cross. He is approx 3-4 yrs old. Laddie came to us as an unwanted traveller dog, he was very underweight with an old injury to his foot. He was also recovering from Mange. He loves his gentle walks and loves to curl up on the sofa with you (or on you!). He likes to be left alone and is not happy when other dogs bounce around him. Laddie walks really well on the lead, is walked by a 13 yr old. He is great with kids aged 7+.

Laddie is NOT to be trusted with cats or smaller animals (including puppies). Laddie is fully vacc’d, microchipped, wormed and de-flead. He will be neutered as soon as he has gained a bit more weight and then he will be ready to go to his new home.

Comet – 12-18 month old male Saluki cross Greyhound

Comet is about 12 to 18 months old. He is a very traumatised and timid little boy at the moment. He came to us after running loose and being hit by a car and he may have been roughly treated in the past as he is wary of humans until he knows you. We don’t know anything of Comet’s previous life.

Comet loves other dogs and walks well on the lead. He has been neutered, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped. He will need a quiet home with another dog and older children (teenagers) so he can gain confidence. He definitely wouldn’t be suitable to be rehomed where there are young children.

Marvin is a very handsome Saluki cross and is about 3 years old. He seems very happy but he is rather head shy so looks like he’s had an injury or has been hit about the head in the past.

Marvin loves other dogs and enjoys his runs. He’s happily sharing a kennel with two other dogs, he is very good with people including children. He has been vaccinated, neutered, wormed and microchipped.

Hello my names Toby. I’m about a year old and my foster mum reckons I’m a Saluki Cross and possible Borzoi in there too. At the moment Im very thin and very hungry but apart from that I’m very healthy.

I love to play with toys and with other dogs out in the garden. I’ve only just arrived in my foster home today so I am going to be introduced to cats to see if I’m friendly with them but I love children and other dogs! There are five other dogs here at the moment.

Can someone offer me a forever home? I really am adorable!!!

Benji 1-2 yr old Saluki cross. Beautiful Benji is a bit overwhelmed at being homeless and he is finding it hard to adjust to kennels, he gets a lot of confidence from other dogs and walks much better with them than on his own. Benji takes some time to settle on his walks and is always looking for guidance and reassurance, he is very gentle on the lead but is easily spooked by sudden movements, physical contact needs to be taken slowly but if you are gentle , he can be touched all over. Poor Benji has come in needing to gain a few pounds and he is slowly doing this, he will need a quiet , calm home to re gain his trust in people and start to enjoy life once more.

Spencer – 1 year old male Saluki Cross

This is Spencer, a beautfiul one year old Saluki cross-he only arrived this morning and is being fostered with children and two other lurchers. He has had a bad time, is underweight and covered in old wounds and scars. He has had a bath and some food, and has been out for a walk with lots of other dogs this morning. I even let him off, and he was wonderful. Stayed close, followed the other dogs an…d quite often trotted between us.

Despite his sad start, he approaches other dogs and people with a friendly wagging tail, and is very gentle and soft natured. He reminds me so much of my own Saluki cross, very good on lead until he spots something he’d like to chase, and then very strong on lead! People experienced with lurchers, particularly Saluki’s would love this boy and know how to bring out the best in him. Call drr if interested in meeting Spencer.
