Saluki Cross

Spencer – 1 year old male Saluki Cross

This is Spencer, a beautfiul one year old Saluki cross-he only arrived this morning and is being fostered with children and two other lurchers. He has had a bad time, is underweight and covered in old wounds and scars. He has had a bath and some food, and has been out for a walk with lots of other dogs this morning. I even let him off, and he was wonderful. Stayed close, followed the other dogs an…d quite often trotted between us.

Despite his sad start, he approaches other dogs and people with a friendly wagging tail, and is very gentle and soft natured. He reminds me so much of my own Saluki cross, very good on lead until he spots something he’d like to chase, and then very strong on lead! People experienced with lurchers, particularly Saluki’s would love this boy and know how to bring out the best in him. Call drr if interested in meeting Spencer.

Drifter – 3-4 year old male Saluki Cross

Drifter is a fabulous 3-4 year old saluki cross boy. He has a wonderful happy persona and is such an easy likeable boy who’s love of life is a little bit infectious! Drifter came to us from the stray pound. When he arrived he had terrible kennel cough and was so poorly but through it all he remained happy, sweet natured and talkative! Drifter was a stray so of unknown history but we are guessing due to lack of dew claws that he has been a worker. He seems to be good with all the dogs he has met so far. He is not though cat friendly.

Out and about Drifter walks well on lead and travels well. He also adores people and would make a fabulous family dog with dog sensible children 4 plus. Drifter could happily live with other dogs but equally we feel that he would be happy in a home as an only dog as long as he got time to spend with dog friends out on walks. You would have to be careful though not to lavish him with too much attention to begin with as he does love people so very much you could cause separation issues.

Drifter is a happy go lucky lad with a temperament to die for. Someone is going to be very lucky with a bit of training, time and tlc.

Drifter is currently in kennels located in Staffordshire and can be rehomed nationally as long as we can secure a suitable home visit. Drifter is vaccinated, kennel cough vaccinated, treated for parasites microchipped and neutered.

If you are interested in offering this happy go lucky lad a home in the first instance please take the time to fill in the pre adoption questionnaire: http://www.greyhoundgap.com/homing-a-adoption/pre-adoption-questionnaire

Polly – 1 year old female Saluki cross Lurcher

Polly is a young Saluki cross Lurcher, or 1 years old. Very quick on her feet/paws, This girl has ended up in rescue, through no fault of her own. Polly was handed in to the pound as a stray, and unclaimed. She served her 7 days in the pound, and was due to be PTS (Put To Sleep) unless a rescue space was secured. This dear girl has now been saved, and is looking for a home. She will be living in foster care, until a suitable home comes her way.

Polly gets on very well with the 9 dogs she lives amongst, and is very gentle with the 3 year old toddler. A sneaky little character, Polly will steal food from the other while they sleep, or run away with the odd sock if she can… A dear girl, slighty bigger than a Whippet, but not as tall as a Greyhound.

This girl could live with a dog confident Cat. Although at times, young Polly lacks her own confidence, especially loud noises, or fast moving objects. But, she soon comes round, and is a very affectionate little sweetie.

If you are interested, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

Tess – 17 month old female Lurcher cross Saluki

Tess is a young 17 month old lurcher cross Collie/Saluki/Terrier. Tess is small, standing at around 23” at the shoulder and she is feather light and moves like lightening! Tess has not had the greatest start to life and shows signs that she has been starved through guarding issues with her food. Tess will need an experienced owner who understands collie traits and has time to spend training and building her confidence. Clicker training classes, agility or fly ball would be a great way to train Tess and she would love the challenge.

Tess is a brilliant and affectionate little girl, she has bonded well with her fosterer but she is very unsure of strangers. Tess would suit an adult only family or one with dog savvy teenagers. Tess gets on well with other dogs and is currently in foster with four other hounds although she does like to rough play so other resident dog(s) will need to be confident. Tess may be cat trainable.

This special girls so deserves a family of her own.

Roly – 18 month old male Saluki Cross

Roly is an 18 month old Saluki cross who came into Gap’s care from the stray pound after being surrendered in by his owner who was due to work away. Roly has been with us for a few weeks now and is a lovely boy but would be best suited to a home as an only dog. Although Roly is happy with some of the dogs at the kennels he can be reactive with others and does not like the other dogs bouncing into his face. He is NOT cat friendly and we feel he would be best suited to a home with children teens plus.

Roly walks relatively well on lead but can be vocal to begin with and does have to be given a firm leave when passing other dogs to stop him barking. One on one with his people he is very sweet and not particularly aloof as can be a saluki tendency. With a little time and patience and one on one training in a home environment we believe this boy has real capabilities, he is a very sharp lad who is keen to learn. We feel that a lot of his behaviour at the moment is due to boredom and being cooped up in kennels meaning he is not getting enough exercise.

Roly is vaccinated, kennel cough vaccinated, treated for parasites, microchipped and neutered. He is still currently in the kennels in Stoke on Trent so we welcome applications for forever homes and foster homes.

Bertie is a Saluki cross Whippet, in need of a loving home. Standing not much taller than a Labrador, his coat suggest the same colour of a Golden Lab. Very kind in nature, and living with 8 other dogs of various size and breed, ranging from 4-15 stone..

A gentle soul with the 3 and 8 year old he lives, Berit has little, If any faults that we could apply to him. Truly a gentle placid boy, that is almost like a pathetic artist, trying to make it…Making a very loyal companion, Bertie would be a lovely addition to any house hold.

Ollie – 8 year old male Saluki Cross

Ollie is a handsome Saluki cross of around 8 years old. He came to us recently from a stray pound environment after being in a pts situation. Whilst in the stray kennels Ollie refused to eat and was a bag of bones when he first joined us as you can see on the photos below. Once with us in kennels our very patient kennel staff persevered with him to find something he liked and managed to start getting the weight onto him. The next step was then to get Ollie into foster, in the kennels although gaining weight he was miserable and this resulted in him being quite grumbly, teemed with the saluki vocal ability it made him hard to read.

Ollie is now in foster with three deerhound girls. He took to the older two immediately but was very vocal to begin with Posie the younger more boisterous of the three. Since then they have become very firm friends and play together a lot. Ollie was like a fragile little old man when he arrived but now in foster he is getting younger by the minute and has impressed his foster home by showing them his prowess for jumping the dog gate!

Ollie’s perfect home would be with an older companion lurcher girl who will play with him at times but won’t be bothering him all the time or he would happily exist as an only dog. We do not feel that Ollie would like to share his space with another male and shows the typical saluki dominance capabilities. This boy adores the company of his owners so a home where people were around to spend time with him but not over indulge him to much or you could create separation issues. He has met dogs out and about and in the main ignores them, he will have a grumble if dogs are to bouncy and get into his space whilst jumping around as this worries him. Out and about though he walks beautifully on lead and he also travels well.

Due to Ollie’s talkative saluki tendencies he does have a lot to say, he can grumble at times when asked to do thing but told to shut up and just do it he does, he isnt being threatening just procrastinating about things. However, due to his vocalness meaning he can be hard to read at times we feel he would not be suited to a home with children and older teen’s would be the youngest age we would happily home him with.

Ollie has been to visit his foster carer’s parents whilst they were away for the weekend, he walked in happily with the deerhounds girls, greeted them like old friends and settled happily and really enjoyed having their attention, he is a dog that loves people. Since arriving in foster Ollie is in the main eating well but can have a tendency to be a bit finicky and picky but is learning to accept he eats what he is given and has gained so much weight he looks fabulous. You can almost see him losing age by the week.

All in all this bright, intelligent, cheeky lad is a very special and endearing hound and people fall in love with him everywhere they go! He has looking pathetic, wimpy and needy down to a ‘T’ but don’t be fooled he is as sharp as they come and is far from pathetic and wimpy!

Ollie is NOT cat friendly. He is vaccinated, kennel cough vaccinated, treated for parasites, microchipped and neutered.
