Tye - 3 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Tye is a 3 year old male black, brindle and white long-legged Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He was found in a shed with a severe leg injury where it was half hanging off, and incredibly emaciated, a vet was called out to assist and he was taken to the vets, while there the leg fell off before they could amputate it, he must have been in agony and suffering immensly.

Our branch was contacted to assist in the matter. A Staffordshire Bull Terrier was reported missing 2 weeks prior and the description fit Tye so the owner was contacted who took a few days to come in and confirmed Tye was his, however he didn’t want Tye back. Then changed his mind a few days later and took Tye home, another few days later he rang the vets and signed him over into RSPCA care.

Tye will be vaccinated, wormed/flead, micro-chipped, he is still about 3kg underweight, once he gets to a good weight he will be castrated. He is not on any medication now and has had his stitches removed.

Tye has had a traumatic time so at the moment he is a little depressed, but with love, tlc and time he will undoubtedly come out of his shell. He has already been in at least 2 homes after being a rescued dog, one was for a year with 4 children and a cat and his most recent was since Jan 08.

Tye has a very friendly nature and loves people, which is just typical of the breed we believe Tye is generally good with other dogs (he’s already been happily walking alongside and enjoying a good sniff with a greyhound bitch in our care!) and children, but we will assess him while he is in foster to be sure.

He also travels very well. He’s used to living in a flat and not really been off lead, he’s used to many walks though and is used to someone being around. He absolutely loves food and any treat going! He particularly loves to chew plastic bottles!

He is completely mobile on 3 legs and is not at all prohibited in what he can do, he has adapted very well so please do not let this put you off, please give him a chance.

We are looking for an experienced home considering what he’s been through, a toddler free home as we believe he’s normally quite lively and bouncy. We really want a lovely home with a nice garden where someone is around a lot, at most works part time, lots of walks and socialising once he’s settled and above all love and a secure and stable future.

Lady - 5 year old female Greyhound

Lady is a stunning black Greyhound bitch who is coming up to 5 years old. Her racing days are behind her and she is now looking forward to her retirement and hanging up her racing silks. Lady has had 47 registered races and her trainer has asked GRWE to find her a secure home as a pet.

She is of course only used to life in a greyhound kennels, like all other ex-racers, but will soon settle in th the routine of home life!

Jester - 4 year old male Greyhound

Jester is a black Greyhound male who is 4 years old.  He has run nearly 60 races on registered tracks, and his last race was over a year ago. Since then there is no history on him, until he ended up in a dog pound in the North of England recently.  We are asuming he has been racing on a flapping tack in the meantime, but we will never know. Jester is a big dog with a  big personality!

He walks well on the lead but is so friendly he sometimes jumps up and puts his paws on your shoulders.  This could be off putting especially to young children. It’s fair to say Jester loves people, whether is cuddling with them or leaning on them, he is most definately a people dog. He has an old shoulder injury which doesn’t seem to bother him at all, but may be aggravated by off lead exercise.

Whiskey - 3 year old male Greyhound

Whiskey is a super Greyhound male who is around 3 years old and who really deserves a break. He has been with us a long time and we are very fond of him. Whiskey came to us from a dog pound so we know nothing of his history. We re-homed him with a family but he was returned to us following some incidents where he challenged both adults.

Whiskey knows his own mind and can be very single-minded when he chooses to be! However, Whiskey has lots of very positive points and in the right home will make a loving and loyal pet.

Whiskey needs someone who is a strong leader yet who is not going to meet his challenges with more challenges, as this will mean that Whiskey will rack things up a notch! A calm confident person who will show Whiskey that they are in charge will mean that he can relax and start enjoying life!

Whiskey is a very bright dog who loves a game of ball and lots of interaction with people. He can sit and his recall is good too, as is his house-training. Whiskey loves people and responds well to those whom he respects. He can at times be quite full-on with other dogs but has lived very happily with a Greyhound bitch in the past, and will happily play with dogs whom he knows and has been introduced to. He cannot live with cats.

Nellie - 4-5 year old female Greyhound

Nellie is an ex-racing Greyhound who is now looking for a comfy retirement sofa. She has raced 77 times and now at the age of nearly 5 she feels its time for a rest. She has come directly from her trainer. She is a lovely, friendly and affectionate girl who loves people and who will soon adapt to her new life in a home enironment.

Many people comment on how easily ex-racers adapt to life in a home, and of course because they are so used to a routine they will inevitably just “slot in” to living in a home with the minimum of fuss. We are sure that Nellie will be no different!
