Unknown Cross Medium Size

Sophie - 1 1/2 year old female Cross-Breed

Sophie is a 1 1/2 year old medium sized cross-breed female who came to us from Greece where she had been in a shelter for the past 14 months. Sophie is very, very nervous of people and her new home must understand that she may well carry her demons for years, she may never be confident around people.

We took Sophie as the rescue in Greece had exhausted their options on how to help her and just didn’t have enough time to devote to her needs. She needs a quiet, stable home with somone who is home all day to focus fully on her needs. She has been very good with the children she has met, but because of her nervous nature she may be unpredictable if startled, so as she is at the moment we will not be placing Sophie in a home with children.

She is good with other dogs and may benefeit from an older, confident dog to teach her the ways of the world. She has met cats here and has completely ignored them. The above photo of Sophie shows how she has come along since she has been here, when she is moved to a new home it will take time for Sophie to adjust and learn to trust you, but with alot of patience she will come around.

Skips - 6 year old female Cross-Breed

Skips is a 6 year old medium cross-breed female who is full of life and energy, she originally came to the centre via an inspector as she was being kept in bad conditions, then was rehomed the a lady who wasn’t able to cope with her lively behaviour. Skips will need an active home where she can get plenty of exercise and maybe try agility!

Skips can live most dogs as she loves to play but would maybe be better suited to live with a male, she can live with older children and possibly a cat if the cat is confident and the owners are experienced in mixing them together.  Skips will need someone at home most of the day as she may need house training and teaching to be left.

Skips is a lovely natured dog and would really love a lively active home where she can get lots of attention and exercise.

Pirate - 5 month old male Cross-Breed

Hello my name is Pirate, I’m a 5 month old male cross-breed who will grow to be a medium sized dog. I came to The Mayhew with my brothers and sisters because my owner had too many dogs to cope with. I haven’t received the proper training and socialisation that a young pup needs, however with plenty of love and attention from my new guardians I will soon catch up. I will also need to learn all the basic commands and will need to attend training classes.

My new guardians will have owned medium sized dogs before and will be knowledgeable about dogs. I will need two thirty-minute gentle off-lead outings per day while young, building up to one to two hours once fully grown. I could live with a dog confident cat, children of 12 years and upwards and would benefit from living with another dog who is both confident and well-behaved to help me on my way.

My new guardians will be taking on a fifteen year commitment, which must not be taken lightly. Hope to see you soon, Pirate x

Ben - 9 year old male Cross-Breed

Hello everybody, my name is Ben and I am a 9 year old medium sized cross-breed male. Now I know 9 may sound old to some, but if you met me and didn’t know my age you would think I was 2. I am a big pup at heart and boy does it show! I do have a confession to make though, I am a stick-a-holic, I am addicted to sticks. I am overwhelmingly well behaved and so obedient, I’d give Lassie a run for his money.

I know my name and come back to you when I’m called, I also know numerous commands. As you may have gathered, my favourite hobby is stick chasing and chewing, I will get you to play as well by barking at you till you join in (not so much with the chewing part, I’m happy enough to let you just throw it for me). I am extremely affectionate and have the best manners a dog could ever hope for. I am not asking much from life, just someone to love me and appreciate my stick fetish.

I have large outbursts of energy and love to run about. I am house-trained and good with children and other dogs.  I remain indifferent toward cats.  I will make an ideal companion for any household (providing they don’t live in a log cabin as the temptation to chew through the walls would be too great).  Please give me a chance, I definitely wont let you down.  All my love and sloppy kisses, Ben x

Carrie - 9 year old female Cross-Breed

Hello everyone, my name is Carrie and I am a 9 year old medium sized cross-breed. I am a very good girl and one of the cleverest dogs you could wish to meet. I can open lots of contraptions including fridges, boxes, doors etc. I am extremely food motivated and will perform numerous tricks to make you give in and share your food.

I am extremely energetic for my age and in a very fit condition. I have lots of energy and love to run round burning it off. On the whole I am a very happy dog that just wants to love and be loved.  I have adoration for life and live for adventure but I am also happy to snuggle up by your side and relax in your company.

I am house-trained and am happy to be left for a short time as long as you leave me something fun to do like a treat ball, that is if you don’t want to come back to an empty fridge! I am extremely entertaining and can be quite the comedian and always look on the bright side of life.

All I am looking for is one chance to prove to you why I am the dog you have been waiting for, a semi-perfect pooch! I am ideal for any family that doesn’t take life too seriously and that will share some laughs and may be their couch and dinner. All my love and sloppy kisses, Carrie x

Bruno - 6 year old male Cross-Breed

Hello everybody, my name is Bruno and just like my size I am larger than life. I am a 6 year old Cross Breed and very interactive. I am house-trained and incredibly friendly with both people and other dogs. At first when I am taken for a walk the staff members said walking me was like walking a rhinoceros, but after a good run round I walk very nicely on the lead.

My favourite game to play is tag and I will race round the field at the Home 1000 miles per hour, pretend I am heading straight for you then in the last second change direction. This slightly scared my carers but we all saw the funny side of it in the end! As you can see I have a HUGE character and a humorous personality and love to make you laugh, and am also a very gently boy that will take teats very nicely from your hand.

Despite being clumsier than an ox, I have very good manners but my new owner will have to be very firm (but kind) as sometimes I suffer from selective hearing. I am extremely sociable with people and love making up silly little games to play with you. I will make a SUPERB addition to any house hold, I am worth my weight in gold (40 kg!) and whilst out on foster was described as “an outstanding dog who doesn’t have a bad bone in his body”.

Have you got room in your heart and your home for a bubbly chap like me? Please give me a chance, I wont let you down. All my love and lots of sloppy kisses, Bruno x

Suzie - 2-4 year old female Cross-Breed

Suzie is a female cross-breed aged between 2-4 years old, she was an RSPCA rescue case coming from a home where she was abused, consequently this has made her a very nervous and insecure dog but one with a lot of love to give. Suzie has been in kennels for 6 months and was re-homed for 4 days but due to nerves she showed fear aggression (something that she never exhibited in kennels with any of the staff/volunteers) in stressful situations including meeting new people, and did nip 3 of them when they tried to stroke her.

Suzie is now being cared for in a foster home with a dog trainer where she has shown no signs of aggression towards people. Suzie is being clicker trained and is being introduced to a variety of people, environments and new situations including dog training classes.

Suzie is crate trained and settles well at night, and already has some basic training such as sit, come, bed, and loose - lead walking and of course dinner! Suzie is a lovely dog who has a lot of love to give the right owner, she is intelligent and would be a great companion whether it’s curling up on the sofa or going for a long walk. The right owner would be someone with patience and understanding who would be willing to take things at her pace.

The foster home she is currently in has 2 other dogs and other animals and although she has got on well the majority of times there has been occasional incidences over jealousy regarding the other pets affection for their owner and movement around the house therefore she will need to be re-homed in a house without any other pets and no young children although older children would be fine as long as they are respectful to her insecurities and boundaries.

There have been no problems with her out on walks or in classes meeting and playing with other dogs and she is a joyful dog who will make someone a lovely companion. Free training would be available to help with settling her in to a new home.

Mr P - 7 year old male Cross-Breed

This is Mr P is a cross-breed male aged approximately 7 years old, he got his name because he looks like one of our foster dogs called Pickles. He was found as a stray and we rescued him from the local dog pound where he had been for 6 weeks.

He is rather thin and needs some care and attention. We are not sure how he would be with other dogs as in the kennel environment he has been a bit snappy sometimes. He is very friendly otherwise and loves food!
