Whippet Cross

Judy – 18 month old female Whippet Cross

Judy is a Whippet cross, around 18 months old. Being a whippet cross she can be energetic, but is also lovely to walk on the lead. If you don’t let her off – then you will think she’s quite laid back. Judy was re-homed previously but this did not work out and she is back for re-homing. A family that was previously interested is asked to get back in touch if they are still looking. Judy may be suitable to be homed with another dog, however this will only succeed after careful introductions.

Izzy – 10 month old female Whippet cross Terrier

Izzy is a 10 month old whirrier (whippet cross terrier) girl who came to us recently from the stray pound. Shortly after her arrival it was obvious to see she was not well and sadly found out that both her and another of the arrivals were suffering from parvo-virus. However, they both received treatment quickly and are now once again happy healthy little dogs.

Izzy is only small standing around 19-20 inches and we feel is whippet x terrier with possibly a tiny amount of collie in. Although small Izzy is a very intelligent little dog who can be a little bossy and likes to think she knows how to get her own way. She is going to need a lurcher experienced home with someone that is firm but fair and does lay the boundaries down with her from day one. She is a very fast little girl who would thrive in an environment where someone wanted to do something with her like agility or obedience as she has a brain and likes to use it.

Although 99 per cent of the time Izzy is a very biddable little dog she is still very much going through the puppy mouthing stage, likewise if she feels you are forcing her to do something she does not want to do she will nip quite forcefully. Due to this we will not rehome Izzy with children under 10 and only then if they have experience of having lived with a dog before. Izzy does work very well though with reward based training and if asked to do something and rewarded for her effort is more than eager to please.

As Izzy has had a very mild dose of parvo it is IMPERATIVE that any dog she is rehomed with is up to date with vaccinations. We feel she would be best rehomed as an only dog with someone around all or most of the time to work through her settling in or with an older male who will play with and run with her, we do feel she is too pushy to accept being bossed around by another female but will start to introduce a bit of controlled free running with other female lurchers at the kennels over the next couple of weeks. She has been cat tested and showed little interest until the cat ran then wanted to chase but more playfully than anything else, however, if rehomed with cats the family would have to be prepared for work and the cat would have to be very brazen and willing to stand its ground. This game little dog is going to be such a rewarding addition to an active family willing to put some training in.

Izzy will be vaccinated and kennel cough vaccinated, she had been treated for parasites, microchipped and will be spayed prior to rehoming.

If you are interested in offering Izzy a home in the first instance please fill in the pre adoption questionnaire:

Charlie – 2-3 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Whippet

Charlie is a 2 – 3 year old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Whippet. This poor boy was found as a stray with sore skin under his neck and a sore tail. He is now recovering in a foster home and is in full health. He is good with people and other dogs. He is fully house trained, can be left for a few hours without bein destructive and doesnt climb on the furniture. Charlie can live with children aged 10 years plus and will be neutered prior to rehoming.

This is what Charlie’s foster parents say about him;
“As for the boy himself, he is an absolutely wonderful dog. He’s very sweet and gentle, very affectionate and eager to please. He’s incredibly trusting–he let us clean and bandage his tail on the first morning we had him, he lets us handle his paws, and he doesn’t get upset when we need to examine sore spots; he’s also been extremely good at not chewing on his bandages. He’s not even the slightest bit food aggressive, he’s not at all pushy, he does respect boundaries (like the babygates we have set up), and he knows not to get on the furniture. He does like to chew, but is good about only chewing the toys and rawhides that are given to him.

He seems to be the kind of dog who will bond very quickly. He does have a lot of energy, so his walks really do need physical challenges of things like fetch–which he really enjoys. He is also very smart; since he has been with us he really is learning in leaps and bounds. He is quite a special dog indeed.”

Can you offer this special boy his forever home? If so please call us on 020 8341 3196

Kai – 6 month old male Greyhound cross Whippet

Beautiful Kai is an adorable 6mnth old greyhound cross whippet boy. He is a well balanced, typical cheeky little puppy. He is good with other dogs, good off lead, good to be left for a couple of hours so would be happy as an only dog with someone around all the time or with other dogs for company, he barks to let you know he wants a wee. Kai will be suitable to live with dog savvy children 4 plus but it needs remembering that he is still a puppy and a little bouncy and may mouth and nip. Kai could learn to live with cats but the cats would need to be dog savy and sensible precautions would need to be put into place whilst they adapt to each other as Kai is naturally going to want to play with them.

If you are wishing to adopt a puppy we suggest you buy the book The Perfect Pup by Gwen Bailey and take the time to attend training classics.
Kai is vaccinated, treated for parasites, microchipped and will be castrated before rehoming. Kai is being fostered in Cheshire.

If you are interested in offering Kai a home in the first instance please take the time to fill in our pre adoption questionnaire – http://www.greyhoundgap.com/homing-a-adoption/pre-adoption-questionnaire
