Catherine – 3 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross
Hello, my name is Catherine and I am a 3 year old female medium sized Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross. When I came into the Mayhew I was half starved and only weighed 10 kilos! You could count all my ribs and I was so weak I could barely stand. Happily, I have now grown into a really good-looking girl and have been left with no medical side effects.
I am now in a foster home and my foster mum say that despite my past I am a very sweet and trusting girl. I settled down really quickly and I sleep downstairs with the door ajar and you don’t hear a peep from me until I go up to my foster mum’s bedroom in the morning to ask to go out because I am fully housetrained. I wait quietly at the door when we are getting ready to go out and I walk to heel properly.
My foster mum takes me to the park for an hour’s exercise where I ignore most other dogs and just skip around by myself. If I do meet a dog I am interested in playing with, I do so very politely and if they are too pushy or rough, I just bark to tell them off. I usually stay within 30 to 40 feet of my foster mum and I come back when called and sit for my lead to go back on, although I can get distracted when I see a squirrel as I do like to chase them. I am good with strangers and very gentle with children. I can be left alone for a couple of hours and although I whinge at first I settle down after about ten minutes. In the past I was locked up on my own for many hours and developed a habit of spinning around and chasing my tail to help me cope with my boredom and loneliness but that has almost stopped now I am in a foster home. I am also learning a lot of other things, like not jumping up and I already know sit, down, and bed. I am a fast little learner and love pleasing people.
I am looking for a new home with people who will be patient with me and give me time to settle down. I would be an ideal dog for someone who is around most of the time and is prepared to continue to distract me if I start spinning. You should have owned a Staffie before or at least have thoroughly researched my breed and be happy to give me between one and two hours off-lead exercise a day. I am a gentle girl so I can live with children but please no cats! I could possibly live with another calm older male dog providing it was a good match, although it may be better for me to be the only dog in the home as in the past I have been possessive over food but my foster mum says she can now take away my food bowl at any time without any fuss. My new guardians will be taking on a twelve-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly but in return I will make them a loving and obedient pet. So please come and ask about me soon.
Love Catherine
