Charlie – 5 year old male Boxer
Charlie is a 5 year old neutered Boxer who we have to say, was a bit of a delinquent when he first came in. He is now ready to be homed and preferably to an experienced Boxer home.
He was frequently over excited and was unable to cope with mixing with a lot of dogs in an excitable environment. He simply lost it when over-excited. He is now a million times better than when he arrived. He used to get very over-excited and overly boisterous, but never aggressive. This doesn’t happen now, but was a big problem for him and I think will be best with people who understand this, as it is really easy to stop it before it starts by utilising your own body language, but I feel that this means that he is best homed not with kids, as a child would be unable to do this.
Charlie can now mix in supervised situations. He is now walking on the lead well with selected, non excitable, other dogs. He runs free in our paddock with me and one other, socially very experienced, calm dog of a similar size. Again, no problems, but I do feel close supervision is still required, as I feel if something exciting happened he MAY still lose control, but it would be fair to say that I feel this would be very much a reaction to the excitement of the other dog and not his first response.
I find him delightful company. He enjoys being my personal assistant out around the farm or on trips out in the car.
Sadly, 99% of the people coming to us are looking for a dog who will mix very well with lots of other dogs and Charlie simply could not cope with this.
