Crystal is a Mastiff cross female aged approximately 1 1/2 years old. She has an amazing way of curling up to the size of a Collie!Crystal was bought to my attention quite a few months ago after she was picked up as a stray and never claimed. She was found on the internet on another site along with a list of other dogs who found places but because of Crystal’s breed and the state that she was in nobody offered her a place.

When Crystal was found she was near on totally bald and painfully emaciated. She had untreated mange and was found wandering as a stray and never claimed. She was rescued just in time and found a safe spot at a boarding kennels by a private rescuer and then I do admit that I forgot all about her! She was safe and my head is already buzzing with dogs that are unwanted.

A few months later this lady was mentioned again and I honestly thought that by this time she would have found a home. However, this was not the case and it turned out that she has been languishing in kennels ever since. The kennels are good and they have done a great job getting her skin much better.

She had been treated to treat the mange, but this week they noticed a few scabs that had appeared. They also had trouble with her guts. Everything they fed her seemed to go right through her and the kennel staff were concerned so asked her original rescuer to take her to the vets.

The vet announced that because her skin had not cleared up properly and because she kept getting diarrhoea that a time limit should be put on her because she was obviously not going to get a home anytime soon because of the breed she was. He suggested taking a skin scrape and a stool saple, see the results and then decide whether she should be put to sleep.

When I heard this I felt so sad for her and because my gorgeous little puppy, Marley, went to his new home yesterday, that I did have a spot here for her, so she was welcomed in as a Furry Friend.

She is great with other dogs, brilliant with cats, calm and well behaved and good with small caged animals too. She totally ignores them. I have absolutely no doubt that she would happily live with children, but I am going to kid test her regardless. She also has the most kissable face that you could imagine and goes all silly when you cup her head in your hands and give her a big kiss on the lips!

Crystal is fully vaccinated, wormed, defleaed and has been treated today for her Demodectic mange. We are going to bath her every three days with Malaseb shampoo to soothe her skin as from Wednesday, but to be honest it really isn’t that bad. She has had some food today (just normal tinned food) and so far so good! Crystal will be spayed before going to her new home.
