Dash – 4 year old male English Bull Terrier

Handsome Dash (ref 132d) is an absolutely splendid-looking white 4 year old male English Bull Terrier.  He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre by an RSPCA Inspector because his last owners had neglected him. He is a lively and affectionate chap with a big appetite for playing, enjoying the company of human beings and (especially) being made a huge fuss of.

Dash is always up for being fussed and saying hello to friendly strangers (his entire rear half wags)  -  yet at the same time he can sometimes be a little bit spooked by people forcing their affections on him too vigorously, because he was kept shut in a kennel for years and is still learning how to interact with people.  He is a very keen student, though  -  and just seeing him walking down the road puts a smile on people’s faces.

As well as being a jolly and friendly dog, he’s an active chap who will need a suitably active home where he will get plenty of fresh air and exercise in the form of regular walks and outdoor play.

His last owners don’t seem to have bothered much with training him, so he only knows one or two commands at present, but he is an obliging and amiable dog who should be perfectly able to learn a few more commands without too much difficulty.  He doesn’t appear to have been taken for any walks before coming to the RSPCA, so our dogwalkers have gradually built his confidence up by providing him with reassurance every step of the way as he explores the world around him.  He is now a very game and Tally Ho sort of a chap who thoroughly enjoys his walks.

Dash would be suitable for a household where any young people were aged 18+ and kind to animals.  His new owners will need to have previous experience of dog ownership, since Dash hasn’t yet had a proper competent owner and has never lived indoors, only in a kennel, so they will need to be very patient and understanding and allow him a healthy settling-in period during which he will want to explore everything with his mouth just like a puppy would.

He would need to be the only pet in his new home, because he doesn’t enjoy the company of other dogs and (being a terrier) would certainly enjoy chasing after cats and rabbits.

Dash is a very sweet, charming and affectionate boy whose ready friendliness towards even total strangers is very endearing indeed.  He makes extremely good company and should make a superb and immensely loyal friend to anyone who can offer him the happy and active fresh-air-and-exercise lifestyle he needs  -  along with plenty of fussing, of course.
