Dixie is a 5 year old Podenco mix bitch being fostered in Somerset. This has the be the hardest write up I have ever done for a dog she should have been with her owner for the rest of her life but her mummy has tragically passed away. Julie or Aunty Julie as we knew her was a foster mummy for Starfish and also a dear friend and I hope she is close while I write this and also help find Dixie her special forever home.
Dixie started off her life in Spain as a young puppy she was found with her siblings on a beach in a terrible state living under a tree root – they were the lucky ones and were taken into care by the rescue we work with in Spain – when I first met Dixie she was approx 12 months old along with her siblings Sam & Biscuit (now Matilda) they were all successfully homed here in UK . The owners of her siblings were all in close contact with each other – all 3 settled into family life with no issues.
Dixie or Dixie Lou as we all knew her was Julie’s Princess she adored this dog I would see Dixie regularly too – Dixie is a very sweet girl although a Podenco she is a mix and does not seem to have hunting instincts some of the Sighthounds can have – she loved her sofa and would sleep with Julie every night – Julie also adopted another little dog called Toby both Dixie and Toby adored each other, Toby was very very nervous and Julie’s neighbour has offered Toby a home, it was for the best as Toby already knew them and their dog and has settled in easily. Dixie with her foster family on the beach. Dixie has gone into foster with one of Julile’s close friends and is living with their Podenco bitch with no problems again was easy as Dixie already knew this family.
We now have the hard task of finding her forever home – it would be very easy if it was someone we already know or is known to people – no pressure but we really cannot get this wrong. Dixie has no hang up’s she is a lovely sweet girl, she travels well, good off the lead although she can be strong on the lead, house trained and fine being left and lovely natured with all she meets people, children and dogs but no cats, she will chase.
We feel she really needs to go with another dog its what she has been used to, she is fine with children but would rather an adult home as again what she has been used too and no full time workers – we would really love also for the new owners if they can to stay in touch and maybe make contact with her siblings also in UK. Dixie is spayed, up to date with vaccinations chipped etc.
