Duke is a German Wirehaired Pointer, 8-10 years old. Unusually for rescues, much of his early years are known about. He lived with a family in their home as a pet with another dog and was much loved by the wife and her children. Unfortunately the man of the house wasn’t so nice (to the
humans and dogs) and the family had to leave, leaving Duke behind.
It is then that his life changed dramatically, he was put into a pen outside, beaten regularly and ill treated. When he came into rescue he could hardly walk, had very little fur and sore skin. He has regained his fur now, his sore skin has healed and he can run, play and climb on the sofas, bed or lap, whichever takes his fancy!
He is very friendly, excellent with other dogs, he was good with cats in his younger days, but hasn’t been cat tested recently. He has been off lead in enclosed fields and comes back but he does have a high prey drive so general off lead walks will need more training. He loves his toys and will always greet you with something in his mouth, whether you’ve come home or just woken up from a nights sleep. He loves to be with you and loves to chat to you! Nothing worries him, he is a 100% gorgeous lad. Like many dogs of this breed he has shown signs of separation anxiety, these have been overcome with us, any potential adopter will need to be prepared to take advice to prevent this returning. Because of his abuse potential adopters will also need to be prepared to continue giving him supplements to aid his movement.
