Duke is a 5 year old male German Shepherd Dog. Stunning Duke originally came to us as part of a litter of puppies, along with mum back in 2013. For the last 6 years Duke has lived happily in a home with other dogs, cats and visiting young children, however following an incident in June he was sadly returned to our Welsh branch. Duke was approached by a stranger visiting the neighbour’s home who reached over the fence to touch him which unfortunately resulted in Duke biting. Duke had never shown any aggressive behaviour prior to this.
Duke quickly found a new home via our Welsh branch but has found himself back here for displaying aggressive behaviour towards strangers. Duke had only been in this home for a few months and was obviously very unsettled. He had formed a strong bond with his new family and we believe that he was being protective. Duke is very typical of the breed in that he is extremely loyal and devoted to his family but care will need to be taken with strangers. We are looking for an adult only home for Duke, preferably with someone experienced with the breed. He has suffered a lot of upheaval recently and will need someone dedicated to helping him settle and feel secure again.
Our behaviourist will be on board to work with Duke’s owner during the settling in process.
Based on his past history we feel that Duke could live with other dogs and cats following a successful introduction. He is a beautiful dog who will make a super loyal companion for a sensible, experienced owner.
