Most of the dogs in Romania are either dumped on the streets, dumped in public shelters which are horrendous places, born on the streets having to fend for themselves and face all kinds of dangers. Starvation being the biggest, beatings, torture, being hit by cars or even killed for money. The streets are a cruel cruel place especially winter time. Some also suffer horrendous cruelty from so called animal loving owners and the lucky ones are taken to private shelters where they are looked after until homes can be found for them.
Fili is a wonderful 9 year old male dog who has come to the UK from Romania. He has had a very difficult time this last 18 months as he was hit by a car and left in the roadside. Luckily for him he was rescued and then spent over a year in a clinic, trying to regain the use of his legs. This was a very difficult time for him and he was almost put to sleep due to his condition deteriorating so badly, but because of his sheer determination and showing the vet team that he was trying to walk, they waited. And a good job they did because he is now so much stronger. He still has difficulty with his back legs but he is improving all the time. His co-ordination needs some work and he needs very short walks to help him build up his muscles and increase his co-ordination. He currently walks with the aid of a harness that has a belly strap to help hold up his back end. He is not incontinent. Despite all he has been through, Fili is a delight. He is clean in the house but does have the occasional accident, when he can’t get out soon enough. He is good with other dogs and was ok when cat tested.
Because he is still recovering it would be best for him not to live with young boisterous dogs (or young children), although at the moment he is sharing his foster home with a young 2yr old dog and they love to play together, as well as he is able. He also lives with 2 female dogs and gets on well with all of them. He is a happy soul, very loving and an absolute delight. Everyone who meets Fili is both charmed and amazed by him. His sweet nature and his funny little dance when he is excited charms people, and his sheer determination to get to where he wants to be, amazes people. Goodness knows what his life was like prior to the accident but whatever has happened to him hasn’t dampened his spirit or broken his trust in people. He deserves to have a wonderful life with a special person/family.
He needs someone who will be around a lot, and able to lift him if he gets stuck getting up a stair/step. He has just started playing and likes to have a good chew on a toy, or a little play with a ball. He is a very handsome boy, full of character and love. There is absolutely nothing that you couldn’t love about this dog – he is a truly fabulous dog. He is currently on Loxicam for his legs and may need to be on this for some time but other than that he is fine. Some canine massage and hydrotherapy would benefit him if that was possible. Fili has been neutered and has his own passport. He is just waiting for that special person to find him…..Fili is now in foster in the Northeast of England. He is fully vaccinated, dewormed, deflead, chipped and has EU passport and neutered.
