Foster – 8 year old male Border Collie

Hello, my name is Foster, I am a 8 year old male, Border Collie, but don’t be fooled by my age because I still have loads of energy! I arrived at The Mayhew becuase my owner was no longer able to care for me due to his ill health. I’m currently in a foster home where I have been enjoying two long walks a day, for around an hour a time and I also love going running with my foster dad. He is a Reverend so I have met lots of people at his church and I’ve liked them all.

I especially love the children, and although I can get a bit boisterous when we are all playing, I am very gentle with the older folk who come to visit. Even though I love being around people, I am equally as happy to be on my own and no problem when left alone, so would happily live with someone who worked fulltime providing they put provisions in place to prevent me from being left alone for longer than four hours without a break, e.g. hiring a dog walker or pet sitter to break up my day. I love chasing around with other dogs when I am off the lead in the park and I don’t have any problem with dogs when I’m indoors with them but I don’t like it when other dominant dogs bound up to me when I am on the lead and I will tell them off. I am completely housetrained and my foster dad says that I am very obedient and I know all the basic commands, although I must confess I will pinch the odd titbit given half a chance. I am also very playful and affectionate but not needy and I do snooze a lot.

I am an ideal dog for an active person or family as I need a minimum of one to two hours off-lead exercise in an open space a day as I am still very energetic. They will also need to be fair but firm with me as I am happiest when I know the house rules and have a steady routine. I could live with older children who would respect my needs but I am not for babies or toddlers. I would probably be best as the only dog in the house but could live with another female providing we were a good match. I would be happy to live with cats. My foster dad says that I am a great dog with lots of character and will make a brilliant companion.

Hope to see you soon, Foster
