Fred is a 5 year old male Cross-Breed. Fred is a small sized lad who came to us as part of a rescue mission with 6 other dogs. We do not believe he has ever known a regular home environment but with all the dogs we have been unable to gain any history on them. Fred is a friendly quiet boy who enjoys human interaction. He is incredibly shy and waits patiently for you to initiate an invitation. Once he knows you want him he comes over and quietly wraps himself around you. It was evident when he arrived that he had never been walked before and did not understand the lead however has made great progress with it since being here and walks nicely on his lead now. He is still quite fearful at times of the lead being placed on him but with gentle patient reassurance he accepts it.
Picking Fred up is currently not an option, it makes him incredibly upset so we don’t push him. New adopters will need to gain trust and work on this over time. Fred is essentially a blank canvas. His new owners will need to go right back to basics with him and treat him like a new puppy. He would benefit from attending training classes and further socialisation in new situations meeting new people and other animals. He needs more work on housetraining however is generally quite clean, is non destructive but likes to investigate so we would recommend a crate when he is not supervised and also displays no separation issues when left.
Fred shares his suite with Oliver and is very accepting of Oliver’s “Mine” attitude. He is calm and balanced and happy to share his space with dogs of all shapes and sizes. New situations will make Fred visibly shake so care must be taken to take things at his pace and allow him the time and patience to realise that he is safe and out of the horrors of his old life. He responds well to positive reinforcement and looks to his people for guidance. Fred needs a quiet calm structured home with experienced dog owners. Due to the fact that Fred has an unknown past and the fact that he can be anxious in unknown situations we do not feel a home with resident or visiting young children would be suitable.
We do feel in the correct environment this boy will flourish into an all round great dog. He has a lot to offer a home who can dedicate the time to him. Fred is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and will be subject to a home check and adoption donation.
