George – 3 year old male Greyhound
George is 3 year old Greyhound and totally fabulous. A really lovely boy, who walks beautifully on the lead, has no real issues and tops all that with a perma-wag of a tail – what’s not to love? George has been in kennels too long now and as a result he is getting depressed.
This lovely boy is coming up to 4 years old and is beginning to think no-one will ever love him or want him as he has been with us for months and months and is overlooked time and again – mainly because he is a big black boy. He raced for his owner and did well but then tore a muscle in his back leg which although completely healed meant he could not compete successfully again so his owner decided he would have him put to sleep. That’s where we stepped in.
As time passed George became very sad and lonely in kennels. He would lie on the kennel floor up against the bars of the door to look up the corridor to see if anyone was coming for him but they never were. After an appeal just before Christmas, George was lucky enough to get himself the most wonderful foster home where he has blossomed and learned the ways of family life. However, this is only temporary and George needs a home of his very own.
He is living very happily and contentedly with a boy greyhound and a girl lurcher and he is showing that he has lovely manners (see them all snuggled together). He will wait patiently whilst his food bowl goes down and then looks for reassurance that he may take it – he doesn’t bolt his food and never tries to pinch anyone elses. He also takes treats very gently out of your hand. He is now very content in a home environment and is completely house trained – he even asks when he wants to go out. He is used to being around older children both with this trainer and in his foster home and will come when called to be cuddled.
George walks beautifully on the lead and is fine when meeting bigger dogs. He has no great issues with small dogs but doesn’t like them running off lead around his legs, which is fair enough – he just needs to get used to them – and he is making good progress in that department.
His foster mum says “George is such a lovely boy – he is very affectionate, loves being cuddled and groomed and is very eager to please – he is very obedient when he knows what you want him to do. He is really adorable and is a very loving dog. His tongue is always hanging out so he looks like he is smiling all the time and his tail is only still when he is asleep. He is such a happy dog to have around – someone will be lucky to have him. Oh, and by the way, his ears are so comical!”
You might think he’s just another black boy, but believe me; you will not be disappointed if you choose him – a real pal for life. George is available for re-homing in Lancashire, Cumbria and West Yorkshire.
