Harrison – 3 year old male Greyhound
Harrison is a year 3 old Greyhound boy. There is only word for Harrison and thats ‘handsome’! He has stunning white markings that offset his lovely brindle coat. Before coming to us Harrison had injured the tendons in one of his legs and had to have an operation to correct it. He is now fully recovered though no longer fast enough for the track and this is how he came to us.

Harrison has only just arrived at the kennels so we are still getting to know him but so far he is proving to be a perfect gent. He loves cuddles and is very well mannered with the other greyhounds in the kennels. We dont expect that given Harrison’s movie star looks (yes we did name him after THAT Harrison) he will be in kennels for long. He will not be cat friendly.

*Update*
Harrison has been with us for over a month now and has settled nicely in to the daily kennel routine. He is a very relaxed, easy going boy when out on walks and greatly enjoys his one-on-one attention, soaking up all the head rubs and ear scratches he can get! Harrison has been tested with our resident kitty and has turned out to be not cat friendly.
This lovely boy will make a super companion for someone.

This lovely fella will be neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going to his new home, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
*Update June 2010*
Harrison has now moved across to the UK where he is waiting for his forever home in kennels in Norfolk.
Gorgeous Harrison was lucky enough to partake in our KGC Annual Jamboree in Kerry, Ireland, and he proved to be quite the head turner. He is a gorgeous big lad with a rich brindle coat and bright eyes that always catch your attention.

Harrison absolutely adores people and is a very human-centric hound, often preferring the company of humans over canines. He is not yet small dog friendly and can be a bit grumbly with other male dogs, though this should lessen now that he has been neutered. As such we feel Harrison would do very well as an only dog, or perhaps sharing with another female who is not overly dominant. He will require a patient, loving owner who will socialise him with all dogs, large and small, to get him used to meeting all types and sizes when out on his walks.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also dont shed as much as other dog breeds such as retrievers or labradors, and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

Whoever is prepared to work with Harrison is sure to be rewarded in spades. He is a truly lovely boy, a big brindle teddy bear, and with a bit of work he has the potential to become a perfect dog. He most definitely deserves that chance.

*Update September
Harrison recently took part in the Kerry Greyhound Connection Fun Dog Show, held in Norfolk. He was a very well behaved boy and made his fosterer proud of his progress. He was quite happy and sociable amongst all the crowds, and seems to be settling very well in his new environment.

Handsome Harrison is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

*Update October*
Lovely Harrison is continuing to improve and gain confidence in his foster home, and is really coming out of himself now.

His fosterer is working really hard on socialising him and exposing him to lots of different sights and sounds, and its really paying off. With a bit more work he will soon be a super confident hound, content and relaxed in just about all situations.

Harrison recently went along to the KGC annual greyhound walk in Norfolk, and he really enjoyed his day out. He loved being around so many greyhounds again and was so happy to get out on the beach for a walk.

*Update November*
Well after a little bit of time and patience, Harrison has now fully settled and relaxed into the home environment. He is no longer fearful or anxious around the home, and is now relishing the home comforts. He has become a typical ex-racing greyhound – a 45mph couch potato – and spends his days sleeping on his fosterer’s bed, only waking for food, play or walkies!
Harrison is also no longer nervous around people, and has become a great big softie. He soaks up all the attention given to him, and likes to have plenty of cuddles and fuss. He now understands basic commands and loves his playtime. His favourite toys are his plush teddies and he loves it best if you play with him.

Harrison’s fosterer’s have been working on getting him used to being left alone, and he can be left for up to 4 hours with no problems. He is always ready to give a HUGE welcome when you get home with lots of waggy tails and kisses.
Harrison is great on the lead and rarely pulls. He has come around beautifully and transformed in to the gorgeous gentle giant that we knew was in there somewhere. Really his only remaining problem is he can still be fearful of other dogs, especially if he doesn’t know them. His fosterers are working very hard on his socialisation at the moment. He bonds very closely to his people, and with this in mind we feel he would be very happy as an only dog.

Harrison really is the perfect house guest, fully house trained, does not counter surf, and is in no way demanding. He just wants a lovely cosy bed – preferably yours!
