Harvey – 2-3 year old male Lurcher

Harvey is a 2-3 year old large Lurcher lad who has been with us now in kennels since the middle of January. When he first arrived he displayed some signs of having attitude with other dogs. We do feel though that this was not only an element of short lead walking before he came to us probably with previous owners but also insecurity about his surroundings and fear of how the other dogs would behave.

Harvey has started to be mixed now with the other dogs out and about on a longer lead which gives him more freedom and his grumbling is diminishing. He may occasionally have a growl if another dog bounces over in his face or has a growl at him first but he hates being told no and so stops immediately. With people Harvey is a pussy cat, he is a great big softy and a ridiculous cuddle monster! He has all of his basic training; Harvey will sit, down and give paw. He also likes to have a sing with you if you rub his ears till he groans and moans, he also has a very cheeky grin!!

We are confident now that Harvey is ready to look for his new home. His ideal home would be with a confident older sighthound bitch for him to play with but to also to give him a few boundaries. We do feel that Harvey could be an only dog but it would need to be a home where someone was around all
or most of the time with the time and patience to settle him in gently. If someone takes this boy home and lavishes all their attention onto him, we suspect this could create issues when wanting to leave him.

As he is such a big lad we would be looking for a home with children at least 6 year old or over who are very dog aware. He would be more than capable of knocking little ones over with his exuberant greeting behaviour and bounciness.

Harvey is a highly intelligent boy and, as with all dogs, you get back what you put in. Currently Harvey is a blank canvas that is begging for more basic training and we think he would do really well at a higher obedience level and possibly agility for larger dogs. Off lead in the paddock he has been proven to be very loyal. If anything he’s a touch too loyal; instead of running and playing he won’t leave the side of the volunteers with him and would rather engage and play with them!

Harvey is still in kennels; therefore we welcome applications for home offers or for foster home offers and would be willing to progress through a homing on foster view to keep with full back up of Greyhound Gap.

Harvey is vaccinated, kc vaccinated, de-flead, wormed, micropchipped and neutered. He is currently in kennels in Staffordshire.
