Affectionate little Hershey the 6 year old Chihuahua will melt your heart with his whizzing wagging tail. He is currently recovering from an attack by another dog which has caused some damage to his eye. He is a sociable little chap but understandably nervous of bigger dogs. Hershey is in the process of learning how to be a dog – learning to go for walks on a lead and to go outside to play. His house training is also a work in progress. Hershey is living with cats with no issues.
Hershey is a tiny chi who just wants to be with you all of the time. He is a very loving dog with a sensitive nature. He needs to develop a bond with someone and learn to be a bit braver outside. He finds the outside world very scary at the moment but loves running in the garden and will wag his little tail furiously when he is confident. He was with his previous family all his life and was a loved little boy so any new home must give him time to settle and be aware of his nervousness. He is not at all aggressive or dominant with his food or toys and shows no desire to scale fences. That said he is very tiny so fencing will need to be very secure or he could escape through even the smallest of gaps. He is a little nervous when he first meets strangers but happy to be touched, he loves being picked up and cuddled. There are some separation anxiety issues which are being worked on – he does not like being left on his own at all and doesn’t like sleeping alone. He will go into a crate but again he will cry if left on his own. These issues may well be due to the trauma of his attack and any new owner will need to be prepared to lovingly work with him to overcome this.
Hershey is vaccinated, up to date with his flea treatment, has been wormed and neutered. He is looking for a home with experience of small breeds that is looking for a companion, not a fashion accessory – and people who will understand that he needs time to adjust to his new life. His separation issues and anxiety will need patient careful work and he would need to be in a home with older children or adults only. He would be happy as an only companion or with other gentle dogs.
Hershey is being fostered in Crewe, Cheshire and any potential adopter will be expected to visit him in his foster home.
