Hetty – 5-7 year old female English Bull Terrier

Hetty is a very special 5-7 year old English Bull Terrier girl. As you can see from the first picture she was in a very poor state when she was brought into the RSPCA Norfolk West kennels.  She was found tied to a gate post and abandoned.  She was emaciated, full of worms and her nails were so long they had curled round into her pads and in turn they had become infected.

She had untreated dry eye, had an ear infection, an infected tooth that needed removing and of course had a terrible flea infestation and allergy which had caused a lot of hair loss on her back and down her thigh area.  She was in a very very sorry state and close to giving up. Hetty has now been spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

She is now in foster with me in West Norfolk, is doing very well as you can see and the real Hetty is emerging. She is a wonderful character and has so much to give.  She is an extremely loving dog and adores lots of kisses and cuddles and fuss.  She likes to follow you about to see what you’re up to and when you sit down she likes to rest her head on your lap (typical bullie).  She enjoys her walks and is exceptionally good on the lead.  She is having two 20-30 minute walks a day at present and this can obviously be increased as she gets her strength back and her leg muscles build up.  She has been walked with dogs and was fine, but she does take a dislike to some dogs. I am working on this and it is going well.  She loves to potter about in the garden and find things to trance under, the ivy on our wall is a great favourite of hers as is a small potted silver birch!

Having previously been starved she is obviously keen on food and eats well, but will sit for a treat!
She is housetrained and does not chew.  We are leaving her with the run of the house when we go out and she has been left for up to 3 hours with no problems.  She does not attempt to go upstairs at all.  She could therefore be rehomed to where she might be left for a maximum of 3 hours a day. We would not be happy for Hetty to be left in a crate as she has clearly been confined previously and this is not something we wish to repeat for her.  Ideally we would prefer someone to be around for most of the day with Hetty as she deserves to have plenty of good company after the neglect she has endured.

She is sometimes nervous of you touching her from behind and for this reason alone she needs to be rehomed to an adult only household (with no visiting young children).  She needs time and patience to overcome her past ordeal and she will, in time, realise that she can relax totally without fear of being abused.  We would also prefer her to go to a Bull Terrier experienced home who understand the breed.

She cannot live with another dog and has not been cat tested (I may be able to cat test her if necessary though). Her dry eye needs to be treated regularly through the day to keep her comfortable, but she is brilliant with this and totally accepts her drops being put in and having her eyes wiped.  The Viscotears can be brought relatively cheaply over the counter at any chemist.

Hetty has suffered terribly in the past, and deserves the very best of everything now and for the rest of her life.  If you think you could offer her a loving, patient, and peaceful home with a comfy bed, nice walks and lots of attention then please contact us today.
