Izzy – 6 year old female Lurcher

Izzy, a 6 year old Lurcher, arrived in our care in 2011 from a stray pound and has been with us ever since waiting for her ideal home to come along. Izzy is only small standing around 19-20 inches and we feel is Whippet cross Terrier with possibly a tiny amount of Collie in. Although very small Izzy is a very intelligent little dog who can be a little bossy and likes to think she knows how to get her own way. She would need a Lurcher experienced home with someone who is firm but fair and does lay boundaries down with her from day one. She is a very fast little girl who would thrive in an environment where someone wanted to do something with her like agility or obedience as she has a brain and likes to use it.

Izzy can be a little willful and as such we will not rehome her with children under 10 and only thenif they have experience of having lived with a dog before. Izzy does work very well though with reward based training and if asked to do something and rewarded for her effort is more than eager to please.

We feel she would be best rehomed as an only dog with someone around all or most of the time to work through her settling in or with an older male dog who will play with and run with her. We do feel she is too pushy to accept being bossed around by another female.

As time has gone on Izzy has matured into a lovely and beautiful dog but her manners and behaviour around other dogs is still very much a work in progress. Izzy is very strong and bossy and seems to have no fear. She often wants to wind up the big mature strong dogs who the others respect as the heads of the kennels.

All that said where her humans are concerned Izzy is desperate to please and is such a good proud dog too. She does not just sit she sits proudly, she does not just down she downs proudly! Everything about Izzy with her people is aimed at pleasing and in an experienced home as an only dog with people who had time to spend with her and take her to training classes etc we feel her dog behaviour would come on in leaps and bounds!

If you are interested in finding out more about Izzy, we ask all potential adopters to complete our online pre-adoption form in the first instance.

Greyhound Gap
Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity set up to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers who find themselves in a ‘put to sleep’ situation in UK pounds. Funded almost entirely by donations, we rehome around 150 dogs each year. We can have around 40-50 dogs at any one time in our kennels based in Kidsgrove, Stoke on Trent and a further 30-40 in foster homes. Greyhound Gap operates on a national basis so our dogs can be homed throughout the UK subject to a suitable home visit being carried out. If you are interested in adopting a dog from Greyhound Gap, we would ask that in the first instance you could take a few moments to complete our pre-adoption questionnaire if you have not already done so: http://www.greyhoundgap.org.uk/our-dogs/pre-adoption-questionnaire
