Jasper - 4 year old male Dalmatian
Jasper has had quite a bad start in life and we are now looking for a dedicated owner who can give him the loving home that he so desperately deserves. He was spotted a few weeks back by a concerned member of the public when he was advertised as free to a good home on a free-ads site.
He was due to be put to sleep because his owner could not keep him anymore. Jasper had already been homed once but returned because he chased the persons cats. The owner then homed him to the next family who came along who had three cats (knowing that he would chase them) saying that he would be fine.
When he did the obvious and the family tried to return him they were told under no circumstances would they take him back and he was their problem. An appeal went out for him because the new family could not cope with his antics and he ended up staying with us at the kennels whilst we search for the right home for him.
At some stage Jasper was diagnosed with epilepsy. He is on a very low dose for a dog of his size and because he had not had a blood test for a long time, we had this done when he arrived. We are awaiting these results and I will update when we find out what they are.
Depending on the results an epileptic dog is not horrendously expensive. The medication he needs works out at about £20 per month and he would need a blood test every three months which costs about £35. It is a small price to pay for such a lovely boy! The medication he is on has controlled his condition for a long time with no fits in between.
Jasper has been poorly socialised with other dogs and obviously cannot live with cats or other smaller caged animals. He is not outright aggressive with them and is tolerant of bitches, but would suit a home as an only dog and with someone who ideally has had experience with Dalmatians.
Jasper is good with children and fantastic with people, although he is stubborn and listens when he wants to! He has lived with young children with no bad reports. He is strong on the lead but this could be easily rectified with the use of a Halti. He did have a harness but this has strengthened his chest muscles and he pulls like a train on this.
Jasper has been castrated and microchipped and has had his first vaccinations sofa. He has also been wormed and defleaed. Because of his exhuberance with people and being so happy to see them he has damaged his tail on the kennel wall (he is extremely happy to see people when they give him attention) and so he is on a course of antibiotics for this at the moment in case of infection.
Jasper will need a fully enclosed garden to run free in. Initially he will need to be walked onlead so he does need somewhere to run off his energy. The garden will need a minimum of 6 foot fencing all the way round.
Jasper can be left for short periods of time on his own, but we prefer no longer than a maximum of 3 hours. A homecheck will be carried out for Jasper. He is available for adoption the London/Surrey area. If you are interested in offering Jasper a forever home, then please contact to discuss further.
