Jessie – 7 month old female Collie Cross

Jessie is a 7 month old Collie cross and is currently on foster in Raglan, South Wales. She is a lovely and affectionate little girl who likes other dogs and is very friendly and fun.

This is her foster mum has to say about Jessie :

Jessie was taken in by Hope after spending her seven days in a council pound. She has been in foster with me and my own four dogs for three weeks now and is showing herself to be a loving, gentle, yet playful little girl. Jess has obviously missed out on early socialisation as she becomes very stressed and submissive when meeting strange people and dogs. However, her basic character is so sound that she has made tremendous strides ahead in this field, spending last weekend at a busy agility show without undue distress. Jessie wants to be friendly and simply needs more experience of life to give her confidence. She has never, ever, shown any sign of aggression.

When she first came, Jessie would not let me out of her sight, and became very upset if I went upstairs or left for my part-time job. In these circumstances she would bark, but was never destructive. Now she settles down quickly with one of my own dogs, though overnight she sleeps in a crate in the bedroom. She seemed to pick up housetraining very quickly and, apart from the first couple of days, she has only had one accident.
Jessie walks nicely on the lead and, so far, has proved to have an excellent recall, even when amongst other dogs. Because she loves you so much, she jumps up very enthusiastically to get attention and this is something that requires further training.
She lives with free-range bantams and has never chased, or shown more than a faint interest in them, so I would be very surprised if there was a problem in homing her with cats or small animals. She has also met gentle children, and was fine.
I believe that Jessie must have lived (and been fed with)with another dog before as she is quite frantic around her food bowl and will try to get her head into anyone else’s, given half a chance. She has still not fully grasped the idea that food should be chewed rather than shovelled down as quickly as possible. She will also hop onto the kitchen worktops to steal any food there, so a tidy household and a dog gate, denying her access to the kitchen are required.
As mentioned above, she is very athletic and can jump, so good fencing in a prospective home is a must. However, she is no roamer and her favourite place is by your side. If I am on the computer, she is nearly always curled up asleep at my feet.
I think that Jessie would fit into almost any active home and would benefit from the presence of another friendly dog, as she loves to run and play. To enable her to reach her full potential, she needs a supportive, understanding and patient family who can guide her without becoming frustrated or harsh. Jessie would be a lovely dog to train for agility or pet obedience, as her attention is obtained easily and she is also very motivated by food, but she would also be happy to live simply as a cherished companion and playmate.
I think very highly of this little dog and, if I didn’t already have four dogs, she would be a permanent resident here. Whoever adopts her will be very lucky, indeed.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family.
