Jessie and Wag – 15 year old male and female Japanese Chin cross Terriers

Jessie and Wag are delightful brother and sister Japanese Chin cross Terriers. They are about 15 years old and had to be rehomed due to the ill-health of their owner. They are in an Oldies Club foster home in Luton, Bedfordshire, waiting for someone to offer them a permanent home together.

Jessie and Wag

They are quiet and gentle dogs and they like nothing better than a peaceful snooze. They’d therefore be happiest in a quiet home without children. They don’t sleep all day though – they like to wake up at lunchtime and then have a meal and some lively playtime before their next snooze!

It took Jessie and Wag about a week to settle into their foster home. They are OK to be left alone for a few hours but they came from a home where they had company most of the time and so they would obviously prefer that type of home again. Jessie seemed to have forgotten her housetraining when she first arrived at her foster home but she is gradually improving. This could have been partly due to the stress of losing her owners and moving to completely alien surroundings; it could also be due to the fact that her previous owners hadn’t been able to exercise her and Wag in recent times. The foster carer is making sure that she puts Jessie outside if she seems restless and always makes sure she goes out just before bedtime and this seems to be helping a lot.

Jessie

Jessie and Wag are OK with other dogs. Jessie barks at them initially but is then fine. They are good with cats but if their foster carer’s cat hisses at them, Wag likes to have the last word! Jessie is nervous of children and so her and Wag need a child-free home.

Jessie

Jessie and Wag are very good in the car, and they walk well on the lead. Their foster carer hasn’t let them off lead yet as they don’t always return to her reliably in the garden and so they aren’t ready to go off lead just yet.

Jessie's Face

Wag hates being picked up so perhaps he’s had a bad experience of this in the past. They are both a little jumpy if you walk up behind them, and their foster carer thinks that this is because their eyesight is poor.

Wag Sitting

Jessie and Wag are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. At their vet-check, the vet concluded that they are in good health considering their age. They both have cataracts and Wag has a slight heart murmur, but this doesn’t require ongoing treatment.

Wag Walking

Their foster carer sums them up: Jessie is: Cute, Playful and Loving. Wag is: Adorable, Nervous and Loving.

They both sleep a lot and love to be pampered. Wag gets a bit jealous of Jessie and pushes her out of the way to get a fuss. He hates being picked up, to the extent that if you put both hands either side of him he screams as if in terrible pain, even if you’re not actually touching him, ha ha, bless him! When out walking, Jess takes the lead and walks up front whereas Wag tends to plod along behind a bit slower. They had been here for 2 weeks before taking treats/ biscuits from us.

Wag

Jessie and Wag are a very special pair of oldies and have had a traumatic upheaval, so we really hope some kind person will offer them a loving home together.
