Kia – 2 1/2 year old female German Shepherd Cross

Kia is a sensitive 2 1/2 year old German Shepherd cross in the care of the Dogs Trust in Glasgow who is looking for an understanding home who can help her adapt to a new life not living in kennels. Kia has spent some time in kennels now, and can find this environment a difficult one to cope with. Being such a clever girl she requires lots of mental stimulation and loves to be kept entertained! She is still young and very fun-loving and adores playing tug-o-war games with her favourite handler Julie. A new home must be committed to helping Kia settle in have to be patient and understanding with her.

Kia has such a beautiful and affectionate nature. The biggest challenge Kia faces is her lack of confidence in new situations with introductions to strangers and dogs. Due to a lack of socialisation at a young age, Kia is unsure how to act when faced with new and challenging environments and can at times react with over the top behaviour. Her new home must be fully aware why she worries, and with the full support of her carers help her gradually, with time and patience, work through this. She can be unsure of other dogs at first but she will relax when the other dog is calm and she has got to know them. Kia loves playing with her toys, however play time can be restricted as she suffers from hip dysplasia, but her new home must understand she still has a very active mind and will need stimulated. Dogs Trust will cover any veterinary expenses occurred in relation to Kia’s hip problem. If you would like to talk to someone about giving our fantastic, loving Kia a home please call Dogs Trust Glasgow on 0141 773 5130.
