Kiba – 18 month old male Alaskan Malamute

Kiba is a very handsome 18 month old male Alaskan Malamute. He is kennel club registered. He came into our care as his owner had to change jobs and no longer had the time to look after Kiba properly. Kiba is a happy, sociable, playful and inquisitive dog. He still behaves very much like a young dog. He enjoys playing with toys and interacting with people who are playing with him. He has a grasp of basic commands and will sit, give paw and take treats ever so gently. He is also independent and can be stubborn and doesn’t know many boundaries.

He jumps up when excited and this needs to be discouraged as with him being a big dog this could be intimidating to some people. He will need an owner who is able to set him boundaries in a calm but fair manner, an owner who will insist that he only gets the things he wants when he is calm and has good manners. He should be easy to train with reward based training as he is very food motivated .

Kiba is a strong and powerful dog . He will need someone who is physically able to exercise and train him. He is very strong on the lead and would be best suited being walked with a halti/Gencon lead or harness. Kiba is fine being groomed, handled and is housetrained. We are looking for ideally experienced Malamute owners or at the very least owners with experience of large dogs. It is essential that there is a reasonable sized garden.

Kiba is not to be rehomed with children or other small animals. He has not lived with another dog but we have been informed that he use to regularly attend doggy day care and loved playing with other dogs, especially large ones. He therefore could possibly live with another large dog.
