Lex is a 10 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier that came into us in his 11th hour. We received a call asking if we could take Lex and a Jack Russell called Patch as his elderly owner had been taken into a residential home and no family members were in a position to be able to take them on. The relatives had them booked in at the vets for 5pm to be put to sleep when we received a call at 4.30PM from another organisation who asked if we could help. We didn’t have the room but equally couldn’t let these two die either, so agreed to taken them in and worry about how to accommodate later.
We did have to split them up into two foster homes as neither foster had space for both but they managed really well without each other due to having friends in the foster homes. Lex’s Jack Russell friend Patch was successfully re-homed, sadly Lex is still waiting. Lex is one big softy who adores his big bed which he’ll happily sleep in for most of the day, he loves his human company so will happily curl up next to you on the sofa for cuddles. Lex is totally unfazed by cats so could live with a dog savvy cat. Lex is great with other dogs in and outside the home, he loves a good play and turns into a 2 year old with doggie friends.
Lex will settle being the only dog too, however he can on occasions let you know he wants some company by pining whether it be by humans or his furry friends. Lex will settle quickly and can be left for a reasonable amount of time, he is non destructive, no food or toy issues, walks nicely on the lead and has great off lead recall. Lex does have arthritis in his back leg that at present is being managed by cod liver oil and regular exercise. Lex does have some quirky ways such as grumbles for a fuss then grumbles when you give it, he is a big soft lad who at his age prefers the quiet life, he’s rather like your grumpy old grandad! He is currently in foster with children aged 9+ but a home with teenage children plus would be considered but an older person would be preferred. Lex is vaccinated, microchipped, flea treated, wormed and neutered, he is in Hockley, Essex in a foster home.
