Lilly – 21 month old female Greyhound

Lilly is a 21 month old female Greyhound who is currently being fostered in Disley, Cheshire. Lilly (was named Ernie by owner due to having a hernia!) came in with her brother Milo who has since found a loving home. Working with the same organisation we saved Lilly from being put to sleep. She was one of the 70 Greyhounds (including her brothers and sisters) facing destruction due to the trainer closing down. Lilly had never known a home until she came into our care only a kennel. She has not been trained or used to race.

Lilly has been wormed, flead, vaccinated and been microchipped. She has been spayed, had the hernia removed and has had a scale and polish on her teeth.

Lilly did find a home but the owner felt she was too big for her (always having small dogs previously) and couldn’t cope with the toileting in the garden. It’s not Lilly’s fault she is back, she really is perfect and despite her adopter returning her she says the same.

Lilly is not a big greyhound but is beautiful. She is good with other dogs so can be rehomed with them. In fact she would love a play mate. As with all greys she is very friendly and is great on the lead. We’ve no idea what Lilly is like with cats but we’d rehome her with children/teens as she’s so passive yet playful.

Lilly can be shy of new people and wary of some men, this is not surprising considering her past. For Lilly everything was new from things like walks out and about, roads, household appliances, TV’s, the hoover, carpet, doors, heating, even down to things like good food, toys and treats! Lilly has accepted all these things with no problems. She is very clean in the house.

What the new owner needs to be aware of is that she doesn’t toilet out on walks generally, she tends to use the garden. We feel she would not like to be confined to a room when being left, Greyhounds are generally happier when they have space.

Contrary to common belief Greyhounds don’t need excessive amounts of exercise; they enjoy normal walks like any other breed. They love their home comforts, they need a raised stand for feeding, a greyhound collar, a coat for cold and wet weather and a big cushion type bed to spread out on!

If you are looking for a gentle, affectionate, placid dog then please adopt Lilly, what a little princess she is!
