Linford – 9 year old male Greyhound
Sadly the lovely Linford has been returned to us as he has proved a bit too boisterous for the 9 year old greyhound he was sharing his new home with. He is relishing his new life and since moving in to a home, his playful puppy side has shone through. He now loves to romp in the garden, play chase, and also loves his toys.
The downside of this newfound zest for life is he was running the legs off his older greyhound friend! Linford’s adopters were very smitten with him, however, and he even had his own blog! This blog, which detailed his progress, can be accessed here: http://web.me.com/pdeeprose/Linford/Welcome.html

Linford is a gorrrrrrrgeous boy, I cant stress enough how striking and elegant he is. He has now spent a few months in a home environment and had settled very well, being calm and obedient in the home. He is fully housetrained, non-destructive and ok to be left in the company of other dogs. Outside is a bit different, however, and he can get bouncy and excited when playing in the garden. Because of this we feel a home with very young children might not be ideal for this big boy in case he knocks them over.

Linford is very well behaved when out and about, and enjoys getting fussed over by strangers. He walks brilliantly on the lead and will not pull even if he sees a cat or rabbit. He can get a bit defensive if another dog comes right up in his face, but if they are polite and mannerly he will respond in kind. This relatively minor issue should resolve once he gets a bit more confidence and practice in meeting other dogs. He is equally good with large and small dogs.

Linford would do very well in a home with another young dog for company, not necessarily a greyhound as long as they’re fast and fit! He is a typical greyhound, however, in that after his mad 10 minutes he wants nothing more than to flop around on the sofa until his next walk. This lovely fella has bags of potential and has so much to give to the right family.

Lovely Linford is currently in a foster home in Norfolk where he is waiting for his forever home. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and de-flea’d and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

*Update August 2010*
Lovely Linford, or Linny as he’s become known, is doing very well in his foster home. He has put on a bit more weight, and his rather thin coat is also improving.
Linford really enjoys being around his people, and doesn’t show much inclination to wander off. With a bit more work and repetition when distractions are present, his recall will soon be strong.

Linford is now very good at ignoring other dogs out on walks, even noisy terrier types who bark at him when passing. He is also getting better at dealing with ‘in-your-face’ dogs who invade his space. Though he will still have the occasional grumble if he feels he is being too crowded, he will stop if told a firm ‘no’. He likes to have his own bed available as a place where he can curl up and relax a bit, and may take quite well to a crate if introduced in this way.
Linny is certain to make a fantastic pet for someone who make him feel loved, but also keep firm guidelines in place. He needs to know what he can and can’t get away with for both people and dogs. He can get in the habit of using his size to push other dogs out of the way and this may need to be watched.
Linford’s progress in his foster home is continued to be blogged at the following link, straight from Linny’s mouth!
