Lucky – 1 year old male Collie cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Lucky (ref 101d) is a very lovely male dog with a grey, white and black coat aged just 1 year old. He is a cross between a Collie and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He was brought to Derby RSPCA Centre because his owners were unable to cope with dog ownership and were leaving him on his own for too long.
He is basically a nice friendly dog, but having lost his home and his owners he is understandably a little cautious at present. If he seems a touch nervous when you say hello to him, it’s only because he’s feeling rather unsure of himself. Once he’s got the hang of you, you’ll find that he’s a very friendly boy who absolutely adores being stroked and made a fuss of.

He also loves company and is always happiest when there are people around him, letting him be part of everything that’s going on. Lucky really hates being left all alone; it makes him very upset and miserable, so he needs to find a new home where there will always be someone around to keep him company.
His last owners don’t seem to have spent much time training him, so he only knows one or two commands at present, but being half Collie he is a highly intelligent dog who, at 1 year old, could easily learn lots more commands and have plenty of fun in the process. One of the reasons he hates being left alone with nothing to do is that he is so intelligent, so the more chances he has to show how clever he is, the happier he’ll be.

Lucky would be suitable for a household where any children are aged 15+, kind, sensible and respectful to dogs. He needs to be the only pet in the household, since like most dogs he has a strong urge to chase cats and being around other dogs makes him rather uncomfortable.
He doesn’t yet know how to play, because his last owners don’t seem to have bothered playing with him, but being so clever he should get the idea swiftly if he’s introduced to the concept very gently.
If you’re a dog-experienced person who can offer timid but friendly Lucky a caring, loving, understanding and active home where he’ll get plenty of exercise and lots of mental stimulation too, then Lucky will flower into a truly lovely companion and a lifelong best friend.
