Lucky is a very cute 12 year old Terrier Cross boy who came into Oldies Club care because his owner had to move to accommodation where pets are not allowed. Lucky is in an Oldies Club foster home in Stockton, Teesside, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home.
Settled quickly: Lucky settled at his foster home straight away. He has been completely clean in the house.
Can be left: Lucky’s previous owners said he was fine to be left for 4 or 5 hours. His foster carer has gradually built up the time she has left him, up to about 3 hours, and he seems fine. His foster carer thinks that he would cope with living with a working family, provided someone visited to take Lucky for a walk halfway through the day. Having said that, he does love to be with you.
OK with dogs: Lucky has previously lived with an elderly Chihuahua. He sometimes gets excited when he sees dogs out and about but his foster carer hasn’t let him off lead.
Not good with cats: Lucky needs a cat-free home.
Good with children: Lucky’s foster carer’s family has visited with children aged 3 and 8 and Lucky was great with them. He didn’t jump up, but he wanted them to play with him and took his toys to them. If they told him to leave or drop after fetching, he would. He also let them stroke him and enjoyed being given a few treats.
Enjoys regular walks: Lucky pulls on the lead until he has toileted, but once done, he’s happy to walk by your side. His foster carer hasn’t let him off lead yet so it’s not known how his recall is. Lucky has been having 4 shortish walks per day, but he would equally be happy with two longer walks.
Very good traveler: Lucky is really good in the car; he just sits straight down and looks out of the window.
Good little watch dog: His foster carer tells us: “I live in a bungalow very close to a footpath and he barks if people pass outside – if I am in I say “stop”, or just put my finger to my mouth, and he is quiet. If the door goes he barks, but as I open the door to let the person in he just stops and tail wags for a stroke (or he licks them to death).
Lucky’s favorite pastimes: His foster carer tells us: “When you put his lead on for walks he actually picks the lead up and takes it to the door. He has various toys that he plays with and will happily fetch and drop or leave when asked. He is a little shadow – he follows me everywhere. He loves to give kisses and will give you a wash if you let him – wanting to please.
I go to bed quite early sometimes and I take him just outside for a last wee and then he goes to bed (he does sneak on the end of the bed but once he gets there he never moves until I do, so you can say from 9 or 10 at night til 7 or 8 in the morning he is fine – no accidents or wanting to be out at all.”
Lucky’s perfect home: Lucky would fit a home where the owners want a loving pet. He simply wants to please. His new owners will need to be OK to hold him when he pulls on the lead before he toilets. Or if there is a garden he can go in, that would be fine. He loves children, in fact he loves people, and he would let you stroke him all day. He likes to be cozy and warm and loves being next to you.
Health notes: Lucky has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. He has no health problems, and he was very good in the vets whilst being checked. He needs to lose weight as he is a little tubby, but at 12 years old he is as fit as a fiddle.
Foster carer’s summary of Lucky: “Playful, loving, and a people dog who just wants to please you. He’s just a lovely, loving, friendly little man who has a world of love to give and will ask for nothing in return. He will be a faithful little friend to his new owner.”
