Lucy is a 4 year old female Springer cross English Cocker Spaniel. Lucy needs a special home as an only dog or with 1 other calm, non aggressive dog. Although she has eyesight problems she is a normal healthy young sprocker who needs excercise and stimulation, she loves to play ball and run about and you wouldn’t know there was an issue most of the time. However in the dark or half light she gets nervous and won’t walk and is reluctant to leave the house or car where she feels safe, in these situations if pushed she will growl. She came to me with supposed resource guarding issues, I haven’t seen this only a scared dog when she feels threatened, and only ever when it is dark.
She is a very happy dog who loves everyone she meets, a normal spaniel who will steal food if she can get away with it and carry shoes around the house. She has lived with cats and is happy here with my 2, is fine around my horses and has shown no interest in the sheep and geese at the stables and hasn’t chased birds. Her recall is good, she doesn’t go far from you when off the lead. She is currently sleeping in a crate in the conservatory where she seems happy, she puts herself to bed waiting for her biscuit, and is much happier since I have left a light on for her at night.
Lucy needs a stable environment with someone around most of the time, although she can be left for a few hours and in not destructive, someone who can spend time working out how her eyesight affects her and give her lots of cuddles. It is likely that her eyesight will get worse but she is a young healthy dog and in a stable environment she should cope well.
If you feel you can offer Lucy the special home she needs please apply via the forms section of the website. Lucy is neutered, chipped , vaccinated, wormed and flead. Adoption subject to meet and greet and homecheck.
Please don’t let this girls failing eyesight put you off as she will adapt and live a long normal happy life
