Marley - 1 year old male Cocker Spaniel

Marley is a 1 year old male Cocker Spaniel, who is looking for a new home because his owners decided they no longer wanted him. Sadly Marley hasn’t had the best start in life. His previous owners were very harsh with his training and it is has been said that on one occasion they poured boiling water over his back when he’d been shut in the garden and wouldn’t stop barking to get back in - he still bares the scars.

He was regularly hit in the past and has learned to snap both to protect himself and to get his own way, although his foster carer has yet to see any aggressive behaviour from him, quite the opposite in-fact. He was terribly matted when he first arrived with sticks and thorns digging into his skin, his ears were so heavily matted they were actually weighing his head down. He has since dramatically changed from being a nervous scared little dog, to being full of beans, enjoying life and has a stump of a tail that never stops wagging.

Marley is an extremely affectionate dog who will try to climb onto your lap at any given opportunity, he loves to give kisses and being held and cuddled. Although still occasionally timid of new people he desperately wants to make friends with everyone he meets. He hadn’t previously met dogs before but now loves meeting up with them for a play on his daily off-lead walks in the park.

He will back away from dogs he’s not met before until he realises they’re not going to do him any harm. He bonds very quickly and isn’t keen on being left alone, he will initially whine and scratch at the door when you leave him but does eventually settle. Ideally his new owners will be around for most of the day.

Marley has had a difficult and loveless first year, and is now looking for someone who is experienced with dogs and understands the Cocker Spaniels’ nature. A home were he can feel loved and secure knowing he will never be mistreated or neglected again.

He would happily live with other dogs and/or a cat who is confident around dogs. Any children in the household will be at least 16 years and upwards. This affectionate boy will make a wonderful companion for someone who has the time and patience to continue the training and socialisation his foster carers have put in.

Adorable and sweet-natured Marley is looking for a perfect new home, a home where he will be loved and cherished for the rest of his life.
