Max – 13 year old male Labrador

Max is a very sweet and gentle 13 year old chocolate Labrador boy who is in an Oldies Club foster home near Bury, Lancashire, waiting for someone to offer him a permanent home that is worthy of his choccy splendour. Max is a good boy with dogs. He would be happy to live with other dogs but would be best suited to living with ones that are mature and slow like himself. Max is good with cats and is used to living with them. He barks at the cats in his foster home occasionally but otherwise he ignores them.

Max is great with children but it obviously wouldn’t be fair for him to be pulled around by youngsters. He’s reached the time in his life where he wants to enjoy a peaceful existence, so any children in his new home will need to be of the older and calmer variety. Max’s favourite things: Food. He loves food. He plays occasionally with toys but not much. He likes to be fussed, walked and fed. His foster carers have a pond and Max likes to wander around the garden and then lie at the pond, paddling and splashing his front paws in the water.

Max doesn’t like the hoover or sudden loud noises like a sneeze or loud cough. If he is frightened or unsettled he feels the need to take himself off somewhere comforting, for example he will usually go and lie under a table. A home where he will get lots of attention and company, possibly with another dog that is of similar age. He would love to be with older, perhaps retired, people that will have a set routine and can take him out for slow walks and be patient with him. Although he is fine on his own, he doesn’t really like to be left. He needs to be able to go out regularly to toilet. He can manage small sets of steps, but a mainly level home and garden would be best for Max.

Max is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and will be wormed and flea-treated as appropriate. He has had a dental since coming into Oldies Club. Max has quite bad arthritis for which he is having Metacam, a daily Tramadol tablet and a monthly injection of Cartrophen. He also has a condition called anal furunculosis for which he is having a tablet called Atopica which keeps the condition away. He needs the inside of his ears gently cleaning every couple of weeks or so.
