Max – 2 year old male Doberman Cross

Max is a 2 year old Doberman cross boy who has come into RSPCA care after a couple of complaints were made over his welfare. He had been kept outside all day on a very short tether without shelter and his mouth taped shut with masking tape. According to the owner he was frustrated with Max as he kept chewing. There had also been a complaint that he had kicked Max in the face.

We’ve had Max neutered, microchipped, wormed, flead and vaccinated. He had a suspected a flea allergy as he has some fur loss so we did a skin scrape which was negative so that’s good news! We’ve had conflicting stories with regards to the fur loss one being hot oil was spilt on him when he was younger. He was underweight but is putting weight on. He has a hard lump under his left eye, the vet said it’s an old fracture which has healed itself so it’s nothing to worry about.

Max is not hand shy and is in fact a very friendly affectionate dog, he is a gentle, big baby. Max has lived with 5 children who apparently were never friendly to Max! He lived with another Doberman-his mother. Apparently the next door neighbors cat would come into the yard and Max would play with it so he could potentially be rehomed with a dog savvy cat but this may need work.

Max has led a sheltered life, he has been kept in one room in the house or outside, now we know why he chewed-out of frustration and boredom! However, he has not chewed a thing in his kennel, he’s not been at all destructive. He has been fine with dogs he’s met at the kennels and in the vets even one who was aggressive to him through a fence. He is house trained. He does jump up a lot so that could be a problem with toddlers so we’d rather older children in the home. He is house trained. He is okay in the car so far but we do have trouble getting him in.

Max will make a lovely family pet but we need someone experienced with rescued dogs in particular just in case he needs some work, someone understanding and patient. While he’s with us we’ll learn more about him. He deserves so much to find a loving home where all his needs will be met and be treated with the respect and kindness all dogs deserve.

Max has come a long way in the short time he’s been with us, he adores people as the new videos show, he loves to be fussed, he loves footballs and squeaky toys and he adores to run around a lot. He will make a wonderful family pet.
