Max and Millie – 14 and 12 year old male and female Shih Tzus

Max aged 14 and his daughter Millie who is 12 are a pair of Shih Tzus who are currently on foster near Usk, Wales. Here is what their foster mum has to say about them:- Max and Millie have been with me for four weeks now and they have settled in really well. They are quite different personalities but are the best of friends and usually settle down to sleep in a bed together.

Max is a little old gent; the sort of dog who makes you feel very protective. He takes life at a slow pace but loves his food, pottering round the garden, and lying at your feet. He is very gentle and asks for little out of life. The cold weather is getting to him a bit, having lost his matted fur, and he now appreciates a warm coat on his morning forays into the garden.

Unfortunately, I think that his eyes will need regular attention for the rest of his life. His left eye particularly seems to get a coating of thick yellow mucus and I am convinced that he suffers from “dry eye”. Two courses of antibiotics have made no difference to this. I have got some “artificial tears” and am hoping that these will keep him comfortable. This does mean that anyone taking Max on would need to commit to spending time cleaning his eye daily and administering drops 2 or 3 times per day. This is no problem as he is such a good boy and the drops seem relatively cheap.

Millie still has plenty of life and fun in her. She loves to run round the garden and play with my collie bitch. As my home is, literally, a building site at the moment, she finds plenty of toys to play with ! Millie is affectionate, well-behaved and sociable with both dogs and people. The two of them have previously lived with a cat, and both are good with my free-range chickens.
The veterinary examination found that Millie does have a slight (grade 2) heart murmur, This doesn’t seem to affect her at all. Unfortunately, she has come into season, so her spay operation has had to be postponed until after Christmas.

We would love to find them a nice retirement home together

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family.
