Millie is a Sheltie cross of around 4 or 5 years old I would think. Millie is kind of unique. She’s not had an easy time of it and was initially found in a shelter where she had been for some time with a painful and untreated eye infection. As a result of this when she was finally rescued the eye had to be removed.
Millie has clearly been mistreated in more ways than one in her life because she is suspicious of anyone she doesn’t know. Lead training her was a trial and even now she needs more practice at having the lead put on but once it’s on she now loves her walks and recently has proven she can also be trusted with a trailing lead. Giving her this freedom seems to have brought about a change in her and she is now more receptive to attention from me. Millie’s favourite person is my teenage daughter but she’s very tense around my children and very much needs a home with no children under 16.
Actually I admire this girls attitude. She can be a little willful and stubborn but that only makes me proud that the people who abused her didn’t break her spirit, which is something I see all too often. There’s still room for Millie to grow. Over time her barriers will fall further and her heart will open up to human affection more readily.
Millie currently lives with many other dogs and gets on well in a pack however new foster dogs that come into the household do get their cards marked that she’s not about to take any crap again I admire this in her.
