Muffin – 3 year old male Chihuahua

Tiny Muffin the 3 year old Chihuahua is a nervous little chappie – he is a bit spooked when he first meets people and will run away if you try to pick him up but if you allow him to come to you he is more than happy to be fussed, cuddled and picked up. His little tail will wag nineteen to the dozen when he is happy. He is a sociable little chap but is a bit nervous of bigger dogs. Muffin is in the process of learning how to be a dog – learning to go for walks on a lead and to be braver in the outside world – which must seem huge to him. His house training is also a work in progress as he currently doesn’t like going outside when it is windy or raining. He loves running around in the garden but at the moment you cannot walk up to him and pick him up as he is still a bit scared of the world.

Muffin just wants to be with people all of the time. He is a very loving dog with a sensitive nature. He is a Chihuahua who needs to develop a bond with his owner and learn how to be a brave little dog. He has missed out on socialisation when he was younger so needs time to understand and enjoy the world outside. He is not at all aggressive with his toys although he does growl if other dogs go near his food. Muffin shows no desire to scale fences. That said he is very tiny so fencing will need to be very secure or he could escape through even the smallest of gaps.

He is a little nervous in any new situation but happy to be touched, being picked up and cuddled – as long as he comes to you first. He travels well and is happy to be left in a crate where he will bury himself in his blanket if he is feeling nervous. He is fine to be left on his own. Muffin is vaccinated, up to date with his flea treatment, has been wormed and neutered. He is looking for a home with experience of small breeds that is looking for a companion, not a fashion accessory – and people who will understand that he needs time to settle and overcome his nervousness. He needs to be in a home with older children or adults only. He would be happy as an only companion or with other gentle dogs.

Muffin is being fostered in Crewe, Cheshire and any potential adopter will be expected to visit him in his foster home.
