Nopsy – 11 year old female Lhasa Apso
This is Nopsy and she is an 11 year old female Lhasa Apso. She came into Oldies Club foster home in Gillingham, Kent care when her owner went into a nursing home. She could live with a quiet older dog and fine with the old Labrador in her foster home. She’s not bothered about having doggy company though – she can take it or leave it. We have been told that Nopsy has lived with cats previously and her foster carer feels this to be true, judging from Nopsy’s personality.
Nopsy was a little unsettled when she first arrived in her foster home but she has been quiet at night from the very first night, bless her. She has had the odd puddle accident overnight so needs to be let out last thing and then first thing in the morning. She is happy to be left alone for a few hours and just sleeps, but it wouldn’t be fair to leave her for longer than 4 hours. She loves people and she has been fine with children she has met whilst in foster. She likes a quiet life though so any children in her new home would need to be older. She is a bit of a fair weather dog: she doesn’t like going out in the rain. She can’t cope with long walks and prefers to have them short and often. A 15 minute walk around the block will suit her fine. She has been off the lead on the fields but she tires very quickly. She doesn’t pull on the lead and is used to a flexi lead. She is a very good girl in the car and will lay down in the back.

Nopsy’s favourite things are: sleeping, eating and having cuddles when she chooses!
Her least favourite things are: cold wet weather, walking on wet grass or on shiny floors; oh, and she doesn’t do stairs. Nopsy’s perfect home: this would be with senior owners with a quiet home who don’t want to walk too far.

She is friendly to everyone but she seems be a dog that wants to devote herself to one person. Before re homing, she will be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea-treated. She has been vet checked since coming into our care and is in good health apart from having a slipping knee cap, which is sadly common in Lhasa Apsos. She doesn’t show a lot of pain with it at the moment but may require pain relief in the future. She is under assessment with the vet to gauge whether she will need medication. She is on a diet at the moment as she is about a 1kg overweight, and losing this will greatly help her knee complaint, the vet said.

Nopsy’s foster carer tells us that she is a loving and attentive girl with a noble air – a posh lady! She goes on to say: Nopsy is a sweet little dog who takes her time to come round to new people but then she is your shadow. She will talk to you when you are in the kitchen (especially when you’re cutting up meat!). She loves her food. She likes a little trot out, she is so showy and beautiful that people in the street always want to stop to stroke her. She loves being stroked but isn’t a lap dog, preferring her own bed. She would much prefer human company to animals – she is a real people dog.
