Oliver is a 5 year old male Cross-Breed. Oliver is a small sized lad who came to us as part of a rescue mission with 6 other dogs. We do not believe he has ever known a regular home environment but with all the dogs we have been unable to gain any history on them. Oliver is a friendly social boy who enjoys human interaction. He jumps up and wraps his arms around you for cuddles. It was evident when he arrived that he had never been walked before and did not understand the lead, however, he has made great progress since being here and walks nicely on his lead now. (Albeit a little enthusiastically at times.) He is still a little unsure of being picked up but accepts it with reassurance.
Oliver is essentially a blank canvas. His new owners will need to go right back to basics with him and treat him like a new puppy. He would benefit from attending training classes and further socialisation in new situations, meeting new people and other animals. He needs more work on housetraining however is generally quite clean, is non destructive but likes to investigate so we would recommend a crate when he is not supervised and also displays no separation issues when left. Oliver is dog friendly, he enjoys playing with them and shares his suite with Fred, however, he can be a bit guardy of his “stuff.” We feel this has come from being in quite a heavy multi dog environment where he needed to guard a lot of things from other dogs and now he has these nice things in a lesser dog environment he wants them all to himself. Triggers like food will need to be managed if he is to share his space with another canine companion and also high value things like chews and bones.
Oliver could live as an only dog but we do feel with correct management he could potentially share his home with a canine companion. Preference would go to dog free but an experienced home that could manage the behaviour with another dog will be considered. He is not aggressive with his extremely mild guarding issues and does respond to human intervention but it would obviously depend on the temperament of the other resident dog. New adopters will need to take things at Oliver’s pace and accept that it’s all new to him. Things like brushing and bathing are still quite stressful for him. When he is pushed in these situations he will growl. He will need time and patience to settle and learn in his own time.
Oliver is incredibly affectionate, shy at first meets. He likes going for walks, cuddles and food. He dislikes grooming, loud noises and reactive dogs in his face. Oliver needs a calm structured home with experienced dog owners. Due to the fact that Oliver has an unknown past and that he can be anxious in unknown situations, we do not feel a home with resident or visiting young children under the age of 13 would be suitable. We do feel in the correct environment this boy will flourish into an all round great dog. He has a lot to offer a home who can dedicate the time to him.
Oliver is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped and will be subject to a home check and minimum adoption donation.
