Ollie – 3 year old male Brittany Spaniel

Ollie is an approx 3 year old Breton who came to us as a collaboration with Cocker Rescue Spain. Ollie is a gentle, sweet-natured and very easy going young boy. He is unsure of new people at first but then he is fine. He is fine with other dogs although again unsure at first, but I think he’ll be fine being the only dog or with others. He loves company, he has waited so long for his human that he will want you home most of the time. He is not cat tested, no small furries. Fed on dry kibble. Does eat very fast, but not as fast as when he first arrived. He is fine eating with other dogs. Sleeps well at night downstairs in his bed. Likes a toy but not obsessed. Loves to potter around the garden and manages really well, travels well in the the car but lies down on journeys as doesn’t sit. Nothing bad about him. Really can’t fault him. Recall okay when not distracted but does come back. Has been left for three hours with no problem. A real sweetie.

So what you need to know about Oliie is that he has had a double femoral head removal. In English – the ball section of the ball and socket of the hip joint has been removed. This will most likely be due to severe hip dysplasia causing arthritis. In this country he would have had a double hip replacement but in a shelter in Spain he was very lucky to even get this care. You may be thinking how on earth he can walk but this is a fairy common operation and the dogs grow a “false” joint comprising of scar tissue. Oliie does walk with a very funny gait but he is in no pain and there will be no repercussions form the surgery. I am no expert and am only speaking from my own experience with a dog with severe hip issues so anyone interested in this boy please consult your vets. We have a full collection of X rays readily available.

We are hoping someone can see past this issue to give this wonderful boy a home and we will offer long term foster if needed. Ollie is in foster in east Sussex and he is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, wormed and flead. Adoption subject to meet and greet, homecheck and donation.
