Patch – 16 month old female Greyhound
Patch is a black and white Greyhound girlie who is about 16 months old. Pretty Patch is a quiet, slightly timid girl who hasn’t yet seen much of the world outside of kennels. Once she knows you she is very affectionate and loves her cuddles.

Her nervousness will decrease with time, socialisation and a reassuring owner. She was trained for racing (racing name “Kidology”) but didnt make the grade and has never actually run a race. Patch has been tested with small dogs and seems fine.
*Update*
Patch has now been moved to a lovely foster home, where she is experiencing the joys and comforts of home life. She is a petite, sweet girlie who is really starting to blossom now that she is getting more one-on-one attention.
Patch was initially thought to be cat friendly, but since coming out of her shell more she has decided she doesnt want to share her home with felines after all! She has been fine with all the dogs she’s met, however.

Patch is based in Norfolk where she waits for her forever home.
*Update June 2010*
Patch’s real character is shining through now that she is well settled in her foster home. She gets on good with all other dogs and absolutely ADORES playing football! She will happily entertain herself for hours by nosing and throwing the football around, though she loves to get it thrown for her too.
Patch continues to come on in leaps and bounds in her foster home. She is almost 2 years old now and is most definitely ready for her forever home.
Although timid at first with strangers, she likes the company of both humans and canines, so would be happier homed with another/other dogs. Once settled she can be left for short periods – perhaps one and half to 2 hours. She travels well and can be left in the car for short periods.
Patch’s fosterers have the following to say about this little poppet:-
‘Patch is timid when walking on unfamiliar ground, but with lots of positive encouragement and treats enjoys quiet outside places where there is not too much noise from strangers and other dogs. As Patch is quite active and agile – a large garden or fully enclosed area would enable her to run and get the exercise she enjoys without the stresses of the big outside.
Since being in foster care she has blossomed into an endearing, affectionate, loyal, fun dog and cleverly dribbles, heads and controls a football like Wayne Rooney. Patch is very responsive, loves playing with her toys and likes to mischievously hide her fosterers slippers. She knows and responds to her name, so is good on recall and is very eager to please. She is house-trained. Her continued socialisation with lots of encouragement will bring huge rewards.’

Like most greyhounds, Patch will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week, preferably with a football at hand!
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also dont shed as much as other dog breeds such as retrievers or labradors, and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
